Of course, we had to talk about Karlach in Baldur's Gate 3, the iconic companion role that etched Béart's performance into the hearts of millions. But what do they remember about nabbing the role?

Turns out, quite a lot. In Béart's words: "My early auditions were, they gave me a small biography of Karlach, so I always knew what was gonna happen to her, and her overall arc, and who she is as a person. And she's a real sort of vigilante justice junkie, right? Essentially. So, you get the sense of the character."

"And in the game, she's a lot more friendly than she was back then. And they obviously saw some sort of potential, 'cause I got the call within, I wanna say a day, but definitely within two days. Either that or they were desperate. They could have been desperate."

The second season of Béart's behind the scenes interview series, It Takes A Village, is available now on their YouTube channel.

"And, like, it taught people about props. I know someone who ended up in prop-making because, you know, they were behind the scenes on the Alien films, and they saw that, and they wanted to get into it. And I think that's really important in games because there are just so many roles that people don't know about.

As for what's coming up for Béart, they are playing the lead in a "cool indie game" with a "desert punk" vibe, called Fading Echo, that "has this sort of Jamie Hewlett look to it." Check out the trailer below and you'll see what they mean.

"You can also turn into a small blob of water, And it's the cutest thing ever. And you react to the elements in the game. So you touch lava, you turn into steam. You touch a poison substance they call waste, you can jump really high. So, as you are bouncing and landing on different substances, you change. It's really fun."

"That's a spoiler thing. Not an NDA thing. I don't wanna ruin it for everyone. But she's going to meet more and more people in her mother's life and her family, as the game goes on, and start speaking truth to power."

You heard them! You can learn more about Fading Echo, which will launch in 2026, on the game's official website.
