PCA Is Taking the Chicago Superstar Tour and I’m Loving Every Second of It ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Right now, on Christmas Eve, the biggest sports star in the city of Chicago is Caleb Williams. Full stop. His Ice-Man antics and explosive talent have filled a vacuum this city has been missing for a loooooooong time. And beating the Packers in overtime (the way he did on Saturday night) gave him an early career-defining moment we’ll probably never forget.

But over the summer, before Caleb and the Bears’ breakout, Pete Crow-Armstrong was kind of The Guy (or at least on his way). There are/were others, I know. But don’t sleep on how crazy his first-half breakout was, and how big a star he was becoming.

We already knew PCA had the personality, the blue hair, the 110% effort that attracts fans to players in this town. But for the first time, he also had the numbers to back it up: 25 HRs and 27 stolen bases by July 10 had him in legitimately ELITE company across baseball.

WAR Leaders Thru July 10:

Aaron Judge: 6.8 WAR Cal Raleigh: 5.9 WAR Pete Crow-Armstrong: 4.7 WAR Bobby Witt Jr.: 4.6 WAR Shohei Ohtani: 4.1 WAR

That’s PCA tucked quietly between the 2025 AL MVP (Judge), the AL runner-up (Raleigh), a guy who finished fourth in the AL voting and was an All-Star, Gold Glover, and Silver Slugger (Witt Jr.), … and Shohei Ohtani … the 2025 NL MVP.

Plus, it didn’t matter what type of player you liked, because PCA was truly doing it all – elite defense, homers, stolen bases, you name it (…just don’t name “taking his walks”). A human highlight reel, a 23-year-old who made his debut with the Cubs, a guy who was clearly embracing the city of Chicago. We still love PCA, but in early July, he was on top of the world.

And although his second half ended quietly, he still became the Cubs’ first (and only other) 30-30 player since Sammy Sosa. He still finished among the top-10 in MVP voting as a 23-year-old, he still represented the Cubs amazingly well at the All-Star game, and he took home his first of what is almost certainly going to be a decade’s worth of hardware for his defensive work in center field.

Anyway, I bring all that up because he keeps popping up this winter, taking the superstar tour around the city, supporting the other Chicago teams, hanging out with Caleb Williams, and giving back in the process. If you have any form of social media, you’ve seen this dude on your timeline, and you’ve smiled every single time.

Ten days ago, PCA was leading the “LET’S GO BEARS!” chant at Soldier Field.

In a matter of ten days, he went to two Bears games, a Bulls game, a Hawks game, and a Chicago charity event with Caleb Williams and other local celebrities. That is how you become a SUPERSTAR in this city.

The performance is obviously important, too. And he has work to do on that front next season. But I don’t think I’m speaking out of turn when I say that, in this city, we LOVE people who love Chicago.

Or to put it another way, we love when Chicago feels big and important, but local and familial … all at the same time.

It’s why we love watching the John Hughes movies (Home Alone, Ferris Bueller, The Breakfast Club, etc.). It’s why we stan anyone who says they like deep-dish pizza. And it’s why we love seeing stars from one team support the others. There’s something unifying about it. So basically, I’m just here to say “Well done, PCA.” You’re doing all the right stuff, and we appreciate the way you’re representing this city and our favorite team this winter. Superstar in the making. And doing it the best way possible.
