Laurel East Hartford YMCA’s Holden Kudlac has committed to Division III Worcester Polytechnic Institute as a part of the Engineer men’s 2026 recruiting class.
Kudlac hails from Glastonbury, Conn., and competed at the YMCA Long Course National Championships this past summer. Kudlac set best times in both the 50 butterfly (26.72) and 100 fly (59.40), and added two more best times in the 50 backstroke (30.09) and 100 back (1:04.63).
Kudlac recently raced at the 2025 Bob McDowell YMCA Thanksgiving Invite in November. Kudlac swam to four short-course best times at that meet, including the 50 back (25.97), 200 back (2:05.15), 100 free (49.90), and 200 free (1:54.31).
As a junior at Glastonbury High School, Kudlac set a best time in the 100 fly at the CIAC Class LL Championships in 51.99 in March. Later that month, he clocked his fastest 100 back time at the CIAC Boys State Open Championships, in 54.77.
With this commitment, Kudlac becomes the third sibling in his family, after his sisters Avery Kudlac (Pitt) and Riley Kudlac (Villanova), who each are in their junior seasons at their respective schools.
Best Times SCY:
50 Free: 22.24 100 Free: 49.90 200 Free: 1:54.31 100 Fly: 51.99 100 Back: 54.77 200 Back: 2:05.15The WPI men finished 6th at the 2025 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships last season.
Based on Kudlac’s best times, he would have finished 17th in the 100 fly, 34th in the 100 free, and 37th in the 50 free.
Kudlac could play around with his event lineup, especially with the 200 free and 100 back as options for championship meets. But with the 100 fly in scoring range within the NEWMAC conference, it will be hard to not include that as a primary event.
Comparing Kudlac’s best times to those of this season’s WPI roster, Kudlac would sit 4th in the 100 fly,6th in the 200 back, and 7th in the 100 back as his top three placing events.
Kudlac is the first publicized recruit in the 2026 recruiting class for the WPI men.
