Chicago Bulls shooting guard Coby White has long been floated in trade rumors, roughly ever since he started to badly outplay his three-season, $36 million contract with the team about as soon as it kicked in circa 2023-24. Reserve two guard Ayo Dosunmu, another talented player on an expiring deal, has also been the subject of trade chatter here and there.
Coby White on the Move?
The 6-foot-4 North Carolina product, still just 25, has emerged as an adept scorer all over the floor. After missing the first three weeks of the 2025-26 season with a calf strain, White has put up solid individual numbers in his 12 games back. He’s averaging 21.2 points on .442/.298/.793 shooting splits, 5.2 assists (against 2.8 turnovers), 3.5 rebounds, and 0.7 steals per game.
That 29.8 percent 3-point conversion rate is not what you want from a guy who’s launching 7.0 triple tries a night, but given that he’s a career 36.7 percent long-range sniper on 6.3 trey attempts a game, it feels likely that he’ll round into form there sooner or later.
© Peter Creveling-Imagn ImagesCoby White may be this writer’s favorite current player, but just what his role will be on the Bulls going forward remains a bit murky. He hasn’t meshed with an emergent Josh Giddey this season, and has been rumored to want something in the range of $30 million a year, per Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report. We know how cheap the Reinsdorf family can be, so it’s possible they’ll balk before paying him close to what he wants.
Then again, it feels unlikely that White will make more than Giddey’s four-year, $100 million deal on the open market, so maybe there’s a happy medium White’s representatives and the Bulls front office can reach.
A fresh report from Marc Stein of The Stein Line indicates that Chicago has at least kicked the tires on a possible midseason White deal.
It doesn’t mean they’ll actually move him before the Feb. 5 trade deadline, but the Bulls have left the impression with rival teams inquiring about Coby White that they are more open to trading White than they’ve ever been.
Stein, of course, notes that the Bulls have once again likely missed their optimal window for trading White. He’s making a below-market $12.9 million on an expiring contract this season, which will probably limit what Chicago can get back in a return deal for its second-best player, behind only Josh Giddey.
A New Possible Trade Destination for Ayo Dosunmu?
James L. Edwards III of The Athletic recently submitted a shortlist tallying potential trade fits for the New York Knicks, who could look to move reserve power forward Guerschon Yabusele amidst a brutally disappointing season start.
Dosunmu emerged as a top trade fit for the Knicks, per Edwards. Of course, he offers a pretty lackluster return package for the Bulls. Dosunmu’s abilities as a playmaker and perimeter defender on the ball make him a tantalizing fit for the Bulls.
© Ken Blaze-Imagn ImagesEdwards suggests that Chicago could have some interest in adding backup guard Miles McBride in return, but advises against the Knicks ditching McBride. Instead, Edwards hopes that someone like second-year forward Pacôme Dadiet or second-year point guard Tyler Kotek holds enough intrigue, in combination with multiple second-round draft picks, to entice the Bulls.
Maybe the Bulls would be intrigued by a package of lesser players — the Washington Wizards pick that the Knicks own and another second-round pick — but I wouldn’t be surprised if rival teams were able to outbid New York.
Chicago could get some serious talent in return for Dosunmu — but he’s on such a value deal, and so important to the team defensively (despite Tre Jones occasionally being played over him late for defense), that he’s worth retaining in this writer’s opinion. He’s averaging 14.8 points on .520/.466/.842 shooting splits, 3.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds, and 0.5 steals in 22 contests for his hometown team (seven starts).
