Upside of New-Look Bulls? Beal Re-Signs, CP3 Joining the Lakers? and Other Bulls Bullets ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

The NBA doesn’t appear to have much confidence in our Chicago Bulls, having slotted their 2026-27 vintage in for just three nationally televised contests.

But how do Chicago beat reporters feel about our chances? Let’s find out.

Bulls forward Caleb Wilson

Bulls Bullets – August 14, 2026

The NBA released the full 2026-27 regular season schedule on Thursday afternoon. I took a look at the noteworthy dates on the Bulls’ schedule. Earlier this morning, Josh shared some details of the league-wide slate, including his picks for the best and worst schedule release videos. Our Bulls did well on that one.

— Bleacher Nation Bulls (@BN_Bulls) August 14, 2026 Just how good will the additions of rookie phenom-to-be Caleb Wilson, 2026 All-Star guard Norman Powell, and rim-running center Nicolas Claxton make our 2026-27 Chicago Bulls? Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times submits that Chicago, by record, should at least avoid the dreaded new “relegation zone” created by the league’s amended lottery rules. While the revamped club may not quite be ready to return to the playoffs for the first time in a half-decade just yet, Chicago should reach the “fun-bad” level of pseudo-competent sub-mediocrity necessary to avoid the worst lottery odds. The basketball world remains surprised by former nine-time All-NBA point guard Russell Westbrook’s decision to retire after 18 seasons. One former colleague-turned-bitter rival (there were a few) who at least raised my eyebrows with his praise was 12-time All-NBA Houston Rockets power forward Kevin Durant. The former 2014 MVP, who spent eight seasons with Westbrook on the Oklahoma City Thunder, penned an extensive tribute to the triple-double machine.

I remember asking assistant coach Mo Cheeks, what’s harder to do? Workout after practice or before?? I only asked cuz by time I would get to the gym, Russ was already done in the morning and I usually got mine in after practice. Mo like, “coming in before practice is probably…

— Kevin Durant (@KDTrey5) August 13, 2026 Now-retired future Hall of Fame point guard Chris Paul, a longtime pal to new Los Angeles Lakers owner Bob Iger, could be given a front office gig with the Lakers, opines Dave McMenamin of ESPN. McMenamin also notes that Iger and fellow new Lakers owner Josh Kushner had been in the midst of making a bid for a potential Las Vegas expansion franchise, apparently undeterred by the city’s declining tourism. Paul’s former Los Angeles Clippers teammate Bradley Beal is returning to Intuit Dome. The three-time All-Star played all of six games — and looked completely cooked in those six games — before fracturing his hip last season. He opted out of his $5.6 million player option with L.A. to test free agency… only to wind back on the Clippers with a shockingly generous two-year, $13.2 million deal, per ESPN’s Shams Charania. The Athletic‘s Law Murray reports that just $3 million of his 2027-28 money is guaranteed. Now that they’re rebuilding and in between big-ticket local TV broadcast deals, the Giannis Antetokounmpo-free Milwaukee Bucks are set to showcase all their games for free on WVTV CW18 Milwaukee My24. Finally, our Chicago Sky appeared to be coalescing after the WNBA All-Star break late last month. With defensive wing DiJonai Carrington suddenly in the fold and aggrieved (“injured”) point guard Skylar Diggins sidelined, the Sky won three of their first four games coming out of the break. Now, however, the team has dropped its last three bouts — including a 97-88 loss to the lowly Seattle Storm — and has seen its playoff chances all but evaporate. Chicago is 12-22 on the year after its most recent contest, a 91-71 blowout loss to the ascendant Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday. In that game, Carrington shot just 1-of-9 from the field, notching a scant three points.
