Buzelis Growing Pains, Eddy Curry Returns, PCA Shows Out, Zach LaVine Rumors, and Other Bulls Bullets ...Middle East

Despite a quiet night from second-year forward Matas Buzelis, the Chicago Bulls may have saved their season by winning their first of two home-and-home encounters against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday with a 127-111 blowout United Center victory. Chicago improved to a still-bad 11-15 record on the year.

The game was fairly even through most of the first half, but the Bulls’ scoring off turnovers, some tenacious zone defense and some tactical big man rotation tweaks helped the team begin to pull away by the start of the third.

Josh Giddey, the $100 million man, notched his 24th career triple-double, recording 23 points, 11 dimes, and 11 boards — plus two swipes and a block for good measure.

Can Chicago do it again on Friday in hostile territory? Time will tell. Let’s get into some bullets.

Buzelis submitted an underwhelming performance in finite minutes. Thankfully, Giddey’s triple-double and big nights from Coby White, Nikola Vucevic and Tre Jones helped Chicago seal its first meaningful victory in weeks. In 22 minutes, the 6-foot-8 pro chipped in just nine points on 3-of-7 shooting from the field, plus one rebound. And Buzelis’ defense… left much to be desired.

“A lot of times you look at the performance or shooting percentage or how many points he scores, but I don’t really look at it that way,” Billy Donovan said about Buzelis’ erratic output this season before the game, per The Chicago Tribune. “He’s doing a lot more this year with the ball in his hands than he did a year ago, and is having to guard a totally different player, going against much, much better players guarding him than a year ago. Those are growth opportunities for him.”

— MrBuckBuck (@MrBuckBuckNBA) December 18, 2025 Former Baby Bull Eddy Curry was in attendance for Chicago’s home showdown against the Cavaliers on Wednesday, reported K.C. Johnson of CHSN. The 7-foot center was drafted by Jerry Krause straight out of Thornwood High School with the No. 4 overall pick in 2001, ahead of future All-Stars Joe Johnson (the No. 10 pick), Zach Randolph (No. 19), Gerald Wallace (No. 25), Tony Parker (No. 28), Gilbert Arenas (No. 31), and Mehmet Okur (No. 38). Krause also flipped Elton Brand to the LA Clippers for the draft rights to the No. 2 pick that year, selecting eventual All-Star and champion Tyson Chandler — also straight out of high school — over eventual Hall of Famer Pau Gasol. The double-big, prep-to-pro tandem ultimately fizzled out in Chicago, but Chandler thrived elsewhere. Curry was an incredibly talented athlete, but not much of a defender. He seemed to be piecing things together during the team’s charmed 2004-05 season, but Curry sat out the team’s postseason run after suffering an irregular heartbeat, for which he had to be hospitalized. Cardiologists cleared him to play, but Chicago wanted him to take a DNA test to determine if he had a congenital heart condition. When Curry balked, he was flipped to the New York Knicks (for the pick that would eventually became Joakim Noah). Curry enjoyed three productive seasons on lottery-bound New York squads before health issues derailed what could have been a promising career. He did eventually win a title as a deep-bench piece on the 2011-12 Miami Heat.

— Bulls on CHSN (@CHSN_Bulls) March 2, 2024 Chicago Cubs All-Star center infielder Pete Crow-Armstrong was in attendance for the Bulls’ big night. The Madhouse on Madison gifted the Gold Glove winner with his own pinstriped Bulls jersey to mark the occasion. Last year on the 92-70 Cubs, Crow-Armstrong submitted a breakout season while helping Chicago return to the playoffs. He became just the fourth Cubs player ever to notch at least 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases in a season (he finished with 31 homers and 35 stolen bases).

— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) December 18, 2025 Former Bulls All-Star shooting guard Zach LaVine, trapped on a team that’s somehow even worse than Chicago, will miss a little time with a new injury. Which honestly, given how badly things are going for the 6-20 Sacramento Kings, might be a bit of a reprieve. Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reports that the 30-year-old sprained his left ankle, and is set to be reassessed in a week. In 23 healthy games, the 6-foot-5 UCLA product has been averaging 20.2 points on .487/.385/.867 shooting splits, 3.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists. Although LaVine is in the fourth season of a brutally generous $215.2 million contract he signed while on the Bulls, desperate would-be contenders are allegedly still considering the dynamic three-level scorer. The Milwaukee Bucks were recently said to be sniffing around, Sam Amick of The Athletic reported earlier this week.

— Michael Scotto (@MikeAScotto) December 17, 2025 The Bulls faced a reeling 15-13 Cleveland Cavaliers squad desperate to get back in the winners’ circle. Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com reports that reigning Coach of the Year Kenny Atkinson opted to make a long-term starting lineup change, demoting forward De’Andre Hunter to the bench in favor of second-year wing Jaylon Tyson. In 32:29 of action, Tyson scored 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field (2-of-4 from deep) and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe.
