Yet another match in IPL 2026, and it is time to look at the Predicted playing XI for PBKS, against CSK. While Punjab started out with a win in their first match, Chennai lost their opening encounter, and are 10th on the IPL points table. It would just be the perfect time for Shreyas Iyer & Co. to deflate the confidence of CSK, who are sans MS Dhoni, early on in the competition.
For that, they would also need to come up with a playing XI, that can deliver. Over the years, CSK vs PBKS has become an even contest, or one must admit, is tilting in favour of Punjab. And the clear reason is, the work they put in to compile a solid squad in auction last to last year, and it still shows.
But before we jump to the predicted XI, we also need to see what worked for PBKS in the last match, and what did not. In their encounter vs GT, they won by three wickets, while chasing 163. Not the best show with the bat, apart from Cooper Connolly’s 72, that took the team home. Batting actually, was ordinary. But the likes of Vijaykumar Vyshak, Marco Jansen and Yuzvendra Chahal shone with the ball.
Priyansh Arya bit out of sorts, but retains spot
In the first match, Priyansh could only score 7 runs. The team would expect a lot more from the player, who rose to fame in 2025. In fact, last year he got a ton too. He needs to support Prabhsimran Singh well, and deliver the goods. For now, he retains his spot at the top.
Cooper Connolly seals no. 3 position
One would have hoped to see Shreyas Iyer in a three, but the way Cooper Connolly played against GT, PBKS might have a new long-term no. 3 batter. The skipper can always come a position lower, depending on how the situation really is. He took the team out of a tricky situation, where they were reduced to 118/6.
Middle-order remains same
Despite a rare failure in Mullanpur, the middle-order comprising of Nehal Wadhera, Marcus Stoinis, Marco Jansen and Shashank Singh, would hope for better returns. They are fully capable batters, and were excellent for the team last year.
No changes in bowling too; Shreyas’ fitness a concern
Such is the skillset of this PBKS side, they don’t really need to change their playing XI from the previous match, with some good players still warming the bench. But that is the nature of IPL. Bowling will undoubtedly remain same — with Jansen, Xavier Bartlett, Vijaykumar Vyshak, Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal.
Though what remains to be seen is — if captain Iyer will play the match or not. That is because he was hit by a ferocious shot by Connolly on the other end. He did bandage his right forearm after the game, and his fitness status is still unknown. In case he is unavailable, maybe Musheer Khan can be roped in.
