Caleb Williams has made some truly remarkable progress in his second NFL season. But in his first season under Head Coach Ben Johnson, starting fast is something that has eluded him. The game-sealing interception in the end zone in Green Bay was the backbreaker for Chicago in Week 14, but the slow start (as it has many weeks) forced the Bears into that situation in the first place.
Getting the offense going early was a point of emphasis heading into Sunday’s matchup with the Browns, and Williams and the Bears delivered, scoring two touchdowns (one on the ground and one through the air) against Cleveland’s outstanding defense, paving the way for a rout at Soldier Field.
Williams completed 5 of 7 for 83 yards (16.6), a touchdown, and a 150.6 passer rating in the first quarter on Sunday against Cleveland. Chicago held a 14-0 lead as a result and never looked back.
Matt Marton-Imagn ImagesWilliams finished the day 17 of 28 for 242 yards, two touchdowns, and a 112.5 passer rating, and the Bears boat raced the Browns to a 31-3 final score. Not only did he turn in one of his best all-around passing performances of the season against a very good defense, but he also made some really impressive throws, including the one that’s gotten the most run on social media in recent days.
Our photog, Jeff Wierus (best in the biz), got a sick angle of Caleb Williams' 2nd TD pass to DJ Moore. Came right at his camera and he shot it perfectly. Enjoy! @fox32sports pic.twitter.com/wSjZqHZwcW
— Joe Tidei (@JoeyRedZone) December 15, 2025The reaction has essentially been two lines of thought:
1. Caleb Williams makes throws that other guys can’t, and that was another example.
2. The process wasn’t sound despite the result being there.
With most quarterbacks, I’ll go with the latter. With this quarterback, I’m taking the first line of thought. If you ask Williams, he is, too.
“When I let the ball go, you know, I’m pretty damn sure that it’s not going to be a bad play. If anything, the bad play is an incompletion. I think I have proven that over my time so far, you know, being here and playing football in college, so like I said, when I let it go, I think it is a good ball. At the least, it’s going to be incomplete,” Williams said on Tuesday at Halas Hall.
You can disagree. That’s fine. But Williams feels confident in these throws, and I feel confident in him making them.

Williams’ touchdown throw to DJ Moore was the most buzzworthy play of the day, but there was no shortage of good throws outside of that one. Here’s the best of Caleb Williams from Week 15.
Here is a laser to DJ Moore over the middle out of the shotgun. Johnson has Luther Burden III on the inside of a three-wide set to the right, uses an over to clear out the middle of the field, creating open space for DJ Moore’s over from the outside, and Williams nails him in rhythm.
Come for the Caleb Williams laser to DJ Moore, stay for Colston Loveland decleating Myles Garret pic.twitter.com/dPFl7KYzBT
— Steve Letizia (@CFCBears) December 15, 2025Williams’ first touchdown of the game was a lot less buzz-y than his second, but an excellent throw nonetheless to Moore:
1. Caleb Williams went 0-2 on his first two passes against Cleveland. One was dropped. He then went 9-9 for 142 yards and a touchdown. It was the most accurate performance of the season by miles for the #Bears quarterback. His confidence is growing. You can see it. pic.twitter.com/AJ1Qz4UFu8
— Erik Lambert (@ErikLambert1) December 15, 2025More play-action here from Williams and the Bears. Williams connects with tight end Colston Loveland for a chunk play into Cleveland territory with an excellent throw:
The Bears love to quick snap the ball to catch the defense off guard and out of position. You can see the confusion by the Browns players as they run into each other. And another nice touch pass from Caleb Williams this time to Colston Loveland pic.twitter.com/ZyZJwZQZlv
— Steve Letizia (@CFCBears) December 15, 2025More under-center play-action on the same drive to Colston Loveland (second play in the clip). Footwork looks much cleaner here than it has at specific points this season (and last). You can absolutely see that Williams is getting increasingly comfortable playing under center and with his back to the defense.
back to back under play action concepts for the Bears. A nice dink pass w/ a great catch by Colston Loveland on the 1st one and a missile on an outbreaker on the 2nd. Caleb Williams has continued to cut out fat in his footwork and it shows up here. Real tidy on the 2nd clip. pic.twitter.com/3AYXGTRdS2
