A burglary suspect allegedly armed with a metal pipe was shot in a forearm by police Tuesday morning, Dec. 16, after getting zapped with a Taser to no effect at an apartment building in Winnetka, authorities said.
Officers responded at approximately 2:10 a.m. to an apartment complex in the 20300 block of Saticoy Street, near Oso Avenue, after getting calls about a burglary suspect inside a residence with occupants present, Los Angeles police said.
The suspect was found with a metal pole that he would not drop and after a Taser failed to subdue him, he was shot by at least one officer, LAPD said.
He was in serious condition and taken to a hospital, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department, which reported that he was believed to be in his early 30s.
A resident who was in an apartment the suspect allegedly broke into was also taken to a hospital. An LAFD spokeswoman said he was believed to be in his mid-20s. The man was treated and released, according to a broadcast report.
