After a brutally cold weekend with single-digit temperatures and wind chills as low as -30 degrees, winter weather in the Chicago area was expected to rebound starting Monday, the NBC 5 Storm Team said.
And while Monday started out cold, it wasn’t as bad as its been, NBC 5 Storm Team Meterologist Alicia Roman said.
“No single digits with morning temperatuures,” Roman said at 6 a.m. Monday. “More like the the teens.”
As the day goes on, temperatures are expected to hit a high of 24 degrees with windy conditions and gusts up to 30 miles-per-hour. Those winds could lead to areas of drifting and blowing snow, especially in parts to the southwest.
“Use caution if traveling, particularly on east-west roads in open areas and be prepared for sudden changes in driving conditions,” the National Weather Service warned, with poor visibility possible.
As the week goes on, Roman said, temperatures will continue to improve.
“We’ll see the 30s before you know it,” Roman said, with Tuesday’s temperatures in the upper 30s to near 40 in some parts.
Tuesday will also see brighter conditions, Roman said.
Late Wednesday into Thursday comes the next chance for showers, with rain possible through the morning. By 12 p.m., rain could potentially transition to snow, Roman said.
“We’ll have to watch that,” Roman said, with highs in the low 40s dropping as the day goes on.
Thursday night into Friday, a “strong cold front” will bring temperatures back down into the 20s, Roman said, though temperatures will bump back up into the 30s and 40s for the weekend.
