Man Utd vs Bournemouth Prediction: Can Cherries Continue Old Trafford Dominance? ...Middle East

News by : (The Analyst) -

Andoni Iraola has enjoyed his last two visits to Old Trafford, but will there be a repeat on Monday? We look ahead to the Premier League clash with our Man Utd vs Bournemouth prediction and preview.

Manchester United vs Bournemouth: The Key Stats

Manchester United claimed all three points against Bournemouth in 48.8% of pre-match simulations by the Opta supercomputer. Bournemouth could become the first side to win three top-flight games in a row away at Old Trafford by 3+ goals. Bruno Fernandes has been involved in eight goals in his last eight Premier League games (2G 6A).

Manchester United will hope to build on their thumping win against Wolves when they host out-of-form Bournemouth on Monday night.

Ruben Amorim’s side smashed winless Wolves 4-1 last Monday, with Bruno Fernandes scoring two and setting up another for Mason Mount. Bryan Mbeumo scored the other goal at Molineux.

United have now lost just one of their last nine Premier League games (W5 D3), going down 1-0 at home to Everton the last time they played under the lights on a Monday at Old Trafford.

Amorim’s side have won more points in those nine games (18) than they had in their previous 17 matches combined (16 – W4 D4 L9). That impressive run has lifted them to sixth before the weekend’s action, just one point shy of the top four.

Central to that strong form has been captain Fernandes, who has been involved in eight goals in his last eight league games, scoring two and assisting six. His fine performance against Wolves saw him both score and assist for the 16th time in the same Premier League game, with only Wayne Rooney (35), Ryan Giggs (22) and David Beckham (17) doing so more for Man Utd.

Fernandes has created more chances than any other Premier League player this season (45). The Portuguese midfielder also leads the way for assists this term (6 – level with Rayan Cherki), too, despite only getting his first midway through October.

His impact seems to have rubbed off on Mount, who has scored three goals in his last seven Premier League outings. That is one more than he had in his first 36 games for United in the competition (2), and the former Chelsea man appears to have become one of Amorim’s go-to players.

United need to improve at the other end of the pitch, though, having kept just one clean sheet in their 15 top-flight games this season. Only bottom side Wolves have managed fewer (0), but United’s defensive concerns have been an ongoing issue, not just limited to this season.

They have recorded just six shutouts in 42 games under Amorim, with that ratio of 14.3% the joint-eighth lowest of any manager to take charge of 40+ games at a specific club.

Amorim will hope to improve in that respect here considering Bournemouth have failed to score in their last two Premier League games. The Cherries last failed to find the net in three consecutive games in their final three games of 2022-23 under Gary O’Neil.

Andoni Iraola needs Bournemouth to not only find their clinical edge, but also create more chances. They have had just 18 shots in their previous two goalless games, against Everton (1-0 defeat) and Chelsea (0-0 draw), compared to 46 in their two games beforehand.

A barren run in front of goal has contributed to Bournemouth going six games without a league victory (D2 L4), their longest such run since a seven-match streak between December and February of the 2023-24 campaign.

Antoine Semenyo may be key to any hopes of a turnaround. He started the season with six goals in seven league games but has since failed to score in his last seven top-flight appearances.

Semenyo still has had the most shots (3.1) and shots on target (1.2) per 90 minutes of any Premier League player to feature for 2,000+ minutes since the start of 2024-25. He also saw an early strike ruled out by the VAR against Chelsea, and managed five attempts with three of those on target.

In terms of Bournemouth’s team news, Iraola will hope Marcos Senesi can shake off a thigh concern that saw him substituted last time out. Veljko Milosavljevic also faces a race against the clock to recover from a knee injury, while Tyler Adams will return from a one-match suspension at Old Trafford.

Amorim could welcome back Benjamin Sesko, whose agent said this week that the striker is “impatient” for a return “very soon” having missed the last four league games with a knee issue. However, he has been suffering with food poisoning this week. Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt are definitely out.

After training throughout the week, United are confident that trio Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo and Noussair Mazraoui will be able to play one final game for the club before they depart for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. The club are expecting confirmation either way on Friday or Saturday.

Manchester United vs Bournemouth Head-to-Head

Bournemouth could make history on Monday night, having thrashed Man Utd 3-0 in back-to-back Premier League seasons at Old Trafford.

Dean Huijsen, Justin Kluivert and Semenyo were on target the last time Iraola’s side won on the red side of Manchester in December of last year.

However, no side have ever won three in a row away against United in the top-flight while scoring 3+ goals each time.

United are also winless in their last four Premier League games against Bournemouth overall (D2 L2), which is more matches without victory than they had in their first 12 against the Cherries (W9 D1 L2).

Man Utd vs Bournemouth Prediction

Bournemouth may have enjoyed recent visits to Old Trafford, but the Opta supercomputer does not expect a repeat here.

The visitors were afforded just a 25.5% chance of victory in 10,000 pre-match simulations, with the draw at 25.7%.

United’s 48.8% likelihood of claiming all three points made up the rest of the data-led sims, making Amorim’s side the favourites.
