Shoe trends come and go, but there's a unique one taking the internet by storm right now that you don't want to let pass you by. If you're someone who enjoys the feminine aesthetic of a ballet flat but also wants the comfort that sneakers provide, you're going to love this trending hybrid version: ballet sneakers. Ballet sneakers are the winter shoe trend to try, according to celebrity stylist Sarah Nearis. While some classic winter shoes like ankle boots never go out of style, ballet sneakers are perfect for anyone who loves an elevated street style look. Sure, they're trending at the moment, but they'll fast become a year-round staple that never goes out of style. Traditional ballet flats often don't have a lot of arch support and aren't exactly comfortable to walk around in all day, but ballet sneakers solve that problem immediately. Many are made with comfort in mind, sporting thicker soles with extra cushion for anyone who's constantly on the go. And, they don't stop there. While being extra comfortable, they often feature small nods to traditional ballet pointe shoes, giving them a more fashion-forward appearance. What Is the Ballet Sneakers Trend?
Nearis shares that ballet sneakers are a hybrid shoe that combines a sleek ballet slipper-inspired silhouette with the comfort and durability of a sneaker. "Ballet sneakers are the perfect marriage of a chic and fashion-forward ballet flat but with [more] support and comfort," she adds.

Nearis loves the ballet sneaker trend and says there are infinite ways to style them. Generally, though, she's a fan of this particular shoe for one reason. "I love a shoe that gives you the ability to conquer the day without compromising style or ruining an outfit because you want to be comfortable," she shares. "To me, an outfit should be like a story—not everything has to match, but each piece should be intentional and make sense together. Colors, textures and materials will always come into play, and what I love about a ballet sneaker is you can style them with denim, a sundress or a chic workout look and look incredibly put together."Ballet sneakers are such a versatile style that, as she shares, can be dressed up or down. While they're great for running errands or doing something casual, with the right outfit, you can even wear them to work.Related: These Are the Best Shoes To Wear With Leggings, According to a Celebrity Stylist
7 Ballet Sneaker Outfit Ideas
1. With an athleisure set

If you live in athleisure, Nearis says a ballet sneaker goes perfectly with this aesthetic. Additionally, you can wear them after an actual workout. "It is the perfect post-pilates choice of footwear," she shares. "I am a monochromatic girl, so I always like to tie in the shoe with my athleisure."
2. With a midi dress and a cropped jacket

There are several ways to go for a city girl aesthetic (as Nearis calls it), but pairing a midi dress and cropped jacket with your ballet sneakers is a surefire way to achieve it. Lace-up ballet sneakers work well for this look. Midi dresses in particular pair well with ballet sneakers because the length is just right to show them off.
3. With a bodysuit and a leather bomber jacket

Both a bodysuit and a leather jacket are classic, versatile wardrobe staples. And Nearis says that both go with ballet sneakers perfectly. The best thing about these two items is that they can pair with so many other things—from a skirt to jeans or leggings, if you want to complete the look. "[Wearing a] bodysuit and leather bomber [gives the appearance that you] just left pilates but have to make a lunch in a very off-duty supermodel way," she adds.
4. With wide-leg jeans and a maxi coat

Ballet sneakers look so chic with wide-leg jeans—just ask Nearis. "As a stylist, on days when I am on the go prepping jobs and spending lots of time on my feet, I want to be as functional and comfortable as possible," she shares. "My go-to look is usually a wider leg jean, sweater or tee, [or] a chic coat paired with flats or a sneaker. I love a ballet sneaker that elevates a look and doesn't make it look too casual."Related: 7 Best Ways To Style Chelsea Boots, According to a Celebrity Stylist
5. With a semi-sheer skirt and an oversized top

Ballet sneakers were made for elevated wear, out and about—they marry the best of both worlds. "Just like your typical ballet flat, you can style the ballet sneaker into a chic street style look," Nearis adds. A look she loves in particular is pairing ballet sneakers with a semi-sheer midi skirt. Adding an oversized top or sweater to the mix will complete the feminine, yet edgy aesthetic.
6. With a windbreaker and tights

This is another look Nearis would categorize as the city girl aesthetic. Take a casual jacket like a windbreaker and add tights or socks with your ballet sneakers for a unique look. "[This look is for] the girl who will be walking the city but doesn't want to compromise support or comfort," Nearis says.
