ROCHESTER, N.Y. — House of Mercy volunteers and News10NBC’s team are gearing up to collect the community’s food donations at Innovative Field on Friday.
News10NBC’s “The Big Give” kicks off at 6 a.m. Our team will be at the VIP parking lot of Innovative Field, just outside the front gates, collecting donations through 7 a.m. It all goes to the homeless shelter on Ormond Street that the late Sister Grace started 40 years ago.
The House of Mercy is looking for fresh food, non-perishables, or frozen food. You can bring it in a plastic bag, a cardboard box, or just hand it to a News10NBC staffer on site. News10NBC TODAY will be live at Innovative Field through 7 a.m. with the latest. Livestream the show here.
The shelter is open year-round, but serves a large need for warmth during Rochester’s cold months. Reea Sanders, a registered nurse who has struggled with addiction, says the House of Mercy gave her a second chance even when she didn’t give herself one.
“They love me more than I love myself and there is a God. Jesus has never forgotten about me and Christ is here. I’m proud to be a House of Mercy resident,” Sanders said.
