The 29 best Christmas gifts for sports fans (who don’t like football) ...Middle East

News by : (inews) -

It’s that time of the year again, and whilst the organised people will have already wrapped all of their presents, I (and I imagine, you) am yet to even think about, let alone order, any gifts.

Well you’re in luck if you are planning on buying for a sports fan, as here at The i Paper we have compiled a list of items and experiences, some more serious than others, to gift to that special someone.

We cover Formula One, darts, golf and rugby, but if you’re buying for a football fan, you can find our guide here.

Keeping the motorsport fans occupied

Formula One has finished for the year, and won’t restart until mid-March so fans need something to keep them occupied until then, which is where these presents come in.

At the low end of prices is the Ayrton Senna Lego McLaren MP4/4 at £44.99 which looks pretty good for a small set.

If that’s not enough for you, a hefty £210 will get you a Lego Technic Ferrari SF-24 complete with a moving engine and rear wing.

From there it’s only up in price, with the official F1 licensed partner website F1 Authentics offering some pretty awesome furniture such as a Mercedes wheel nut lamp (£599), an Alpine brake disc clock (£649) and my personal favourite, a McLaren gulf livery wheel rim table for a wince-inducing £3,500.

Now for the silly options (but rather serious in price). McLaren make a gear ratio fidget spinner (£599), Mercedes have recycled a skid block into a skateboard (£699) and any multi-millionaires reading with a spare space in their garage can buy a non-running replica of Nigel Mansell’s iconic title-winning 1992 Williams FW14.

Potential buyers have to enquire to get a price, so you already know that it will be eye-watering, plus it will be quite hard to fit under the tree.

I would be fascinated to know who is buying a fidget spinner for £599

Fans of motorsport are probably best suited to experiences, as they all think they are a better driver than they actually are and need to be humbled (including me).

There is a multitude of track experiences to choose from – the Silverstone formula single seater experience (£355), the Jordan F1 car experience (currently half price at £1,460) and the Silverstone Aston Martin experience (£349) to name a few.

Even if they don’t want to get behind the wheel, there are still plenty of options. Red Bull offer a team factor tour for £600 and there are a range of hospitality options to book to make next years’ Silverstone GP extra special, ranging from £410-1,600.

Finally, if you want to organise a holiday as a Christmas present for a racing fan, there’s no better place to go than Maranello in Italy.

The birthplace of Ferrari, it is home to the Ferrari museum, Ferrari factory complete with their private test track which you can see from the road and a Ferrari hotel (which I have stayed in and can’t recommend enough for fellow petrol heads) from around 100 euros (£86) a night.

Dart-ing through the snow

There is a wealth of quirky options for darts lovers, some that may be more appreciated than others.

Everyone needs somewhere to keep their darts so where better than a multicoloured light up holder (£25.99) and everyone also needs something silly to drink out of which is where the darts pint glass (£18.99) comes in.

The essentials for any darts player

Now, there’s a choice between two t-shirts which really depends on the receiver’s maturity.

On the one hand, there is a personalised darts polo (currently half price at £27.28), which allows you to add their and their teams’ name and looks pretty professional.

Then there’s the ‘Darts and farts – That’s what I’m good at’ T-shirt (£11.99), it speaks for itself.

Presents to leave them stumped

Compared to many of the other sports, I actually present some quite thoughtful cricket-themed gifts here.

Firstly there’s a personalised cricket ball (currently ten per cent off at £31.50), a chocolate cricket set (£20 – no it’s not life sized), a personalised cricket biscuit tin (currently 20 per cent off at £22.40), a cricket bat picture frame (£35) and a personalised cricket shirt can cooler (£8).

These gifts may soften the blow of an impending Ashes loss

Driving home for Christmas

If there’s someone in your life that is particularly adept at losing golf balls, a personalised one (currently 40 per cent off at £11.95) might be ideal for them, complete with their most embarrassing portrait.

A bit more on the classy side is a golf-themed whisky tumbler at £36.99.

Who wouldn’t want their face plastered on a golf ball?

For fans of the legendary Rory McIlroy, this two night experience at his home club is ideal but on the pricey end for £699.

O Scrum All Ye Faithful

You can never go wrong with buying a rugby fan a rugby ball, but adding their name to it (£36.99) is a nice extra personal touch.

If they’re stepping off the pitch to go somewhere a bit more high brow, they might appreciate some sterling silver rugby ball cufflinks (currently 20 per cent off at £96) to bling up their outfit.

A trip to Twickenham will always be welcomed by any rugby fan, with this package offering a stadium tour and a hotel for a two-day stay (£246).
