Doha, Dec. 7 (SANA) Syria’s progress and challenges were the focus of a dialogue session at the Doha Forum, where key international and Syrian officials discussed the country’s path toward stability, recovery, and regional cooperation.

Syria’s Foreign Minister and Expatriates Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani emphasized that “what has happened in Syria is a success shaped by the Syrians themselves.” He acknowledged that while significant progress has been made over the past year, “much work still lies ahead.”

Al-Shaibani highlighted the government’s efforts to rebuild trust with the Syrian people, noting that this trust is “a valuable asset” despite limited resources and the heavy legacy of the former regime.

He stressed that Syria needs “a stable and constructive relationship with all parties, supported by the international community,” and underlined that internal security must be linked to regional stability. “Our policy avoids taking sides, and we will succeed because there is international will to back it,” he added.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide praised the Syrian people’s confidence in their government, stating that “the Syrian government faces many challenges, and it needs to be given a chance.” He highlighted the importance of supporting the new leadership as the country navigates its transitional phase.

Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mohammed al-Khulaifi said the Syrian government is “open to foreign investments,” while noting that security remains a primary concern, which he discussed with U.S. envoy Tom Barrack. He added that both Syria and Lebanon must be given a chance to stabilize, stressing that “Israel’s attacks on Syria must stop.”

U.S. Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack praised the Syrian government’s actions, saying, “President Trump did not interfere in Damascus’s decisions, and what the Syrian government has done is heroic.” Barrack also stressed that “everything regarding Syria is moving in the right direction” and that the new leadership “needs stability.” He underscored that the Syrian people must have the right to choose the form of their political system and that Washington is exploring ways to help resolve the country’s challenges.

Al-Shaibani also highlighted that “the United States now considers Syria a partner state, and there is international support for Syria’s success.” He reaffirmed Syria’s realistic approach to current challenges and reiterated the government’s commitment to overcoming obstacles with the backing of both the Syrian people and the international community.

The Doha Forum session reflected a growing international willingness to engage constructively with Syria, emphasizing cooperation, investment, and political stability as essential elements for the country’s recovery.
