The Bears head into another chapter of the NFL’s oldest rivalry this week, and Caleb Williams isn’t shying away from what this matchup means — not just to the city, but to him personally.
Last year’s win at Lambeau Field was one of the early markers that this Bears team was changing, and Williams made clear on Tuesday that the memory still fuels him.
“It was awesome,” Williams said of last season’s Week 18 victory. “Obviously, you go through such a tough time and weird time and all, everybody knows what happened last year, and you go and face a rival. This rivalry, that’s been going on for a hundred years or so. So, being able to go out there and defeat them and things like that, it was important for us as players and the guys that are still here, and then, for the future for us.
‘We want to keep that going. Obviously, you want win every single game that you play. But, this week, since this is the only week that we’ve got, you definitely want to go out there and keep proving ourselves.”

“Yeah. I think throughout this whole year, what we’ve been able to accomplish has given us extreme confidence,” he said. “And then, for myself, being a part of something that everybody knows the stats of the Bears going up there before last year, it wasn’t the best. And so, being able to be a part of that, being able to contribute to that, provides confidence for myself and I’m going to exude that to the other guys.”
Caleb Williams Understands the Weight of Bears-Packers Rivalry
Caleb Williams admitted he learned quickly just how serious this rivalry is:
“I would say some of the history. The games and how the games have gone, and some of the long streaks that have gone on. I didn’t really know that getting drafted here, but I definitely appreciate it. You love rivalries. I’ve been in some cool, fun rivalries throughout my career so far, whether it’s NFL or college. And so, they’re always fun. They always come down to, it’s an emotional game. It always comes down to the final minutes.”
However, controlling that emotion matters just as much as embracing it.
“Being able to control our emotions throughout the whole game,” Williams said. “is what we’re going to focus on.”

This and That …
Learning How to Manage the Game
Williams is fully aware that being a quarterback is as much about when to make plays as it is how.
“That’s a part of quarterback. When it’s time to go make plays… but throughout the whole game, one through three and part of the fourth, it’s being able to make consistent plays, routine plays.”
His focus? Stack the routine. Trust the moment later.
“I think that’s what I’ve been trying to focus on for myself, just make the routine plays, make the consistent plays. And then when the time comes… we’ll step up to the plate.”
O-Line Love and Confidence Against Green Bay’s Front
Williams lit up when discussing his offensive line — something that’s been consistent all year.
“Absolutely. There’s not a time that I step on that field and I don’t feel confident. A lot of that comes from those guys up in front of me… they don’t get the credit they deserve.”
Scouting Green Bay’s Defense
As for this week’s opponent?
“Not only best safeties, but they’ve got a hell of a D-line… the backers, number seven, especially, their corners of 25 and 24… It’s a great challenge for us.”
Execution, focus, and discipline — that’s Williams’ formula heading into his second career shot at the Packers.
“We have to be focused on the details and from there, we have to go out there and execute the plays that are called and have a certain mentality about us when we step on that field.”
