Popular Chicago-area grocery store Mariano’s is holding a major hiring event Thursday, with walk-in interviews available at all of its locations across the city and suburbs as the busy holiday shopping season continues.
The hiring event takes place from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. across 40 stores, organizers said, including in Arlington Heights, Northbrook, Westchester, Crystal Lake, Oak Lawn, Lake Zurich, Western Springs, Lombard and Frankfort.
“The event provides the opportunity for fresh talent to have open interviews with the store management team for any of the available management, full-time and part-time positions available,” according to a release from Mariano’s parent company Kroger.
The hiring spree comes as several high-profile company recently announced job cuts, including Amazon, Target, UPS, Microsoft and more. Newell Brands, the parent company of Yankee Candle, Rubbermaid, Sharpie and more, announced it would cut 900 jobs alone this month.
It also comes weeks after Kroger said it was closing three big fulfilment centers, including one in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.
U.S. applications for unemployment benefits in the week ending Nov. 22 dropped 6,000 from the previous week to 216,000, the Labor Department reported the week of Thanksgiving. Applications for unemployment aid are seen as a proxy for layoffs and are close to a real-time indicator of the health of the job market. The job cuts announced recently by large companies typically take weeks or months to fully implement and may not yet be reflected in the claims data.
According to Kroger, hired Mariano’s candidates can start in as little as three days, with veterans, military families welcome to apply and transfer opportunities available. Benefits include flexible scheduling, training and development, health and wellness benefits, next day pay, discounts on Kroger brands and more.
