A union representing teachers and faculty at City Colleges of Chicago has told its members to prepare for a strike as soon as Monday as negotiations have failed to yield a new contract.

Earlier in the week, members voted to strike by an overwhelming majority, with 96% of votes in favor of a work stoppage.
“I know nobody takes a strike vote lightly we know what it means to put your paycheck on the line, it takes courage and a deep commitment to the people standing beside you. To City Colleges leadership, there is still time to reach a fair agreement,” union member Andrea Kluger said.
Faculty and professional staff members of the colleges gathered Saturday afternoon to show their resolve and their readiness to strike.
Members told NBC Chicago they remain far apart from administration officials on a number of key issues, including artificial intelligence, health insurance, salary increases, and free developmental education.
Now, with members poised to hit the picket line as soon as Monday, Kluger said the teachers are still willing to negotiate even at this hour, but that they’re also prepared to do what is necessary to secure a new agreement.
“I’m hopeful that there is an agreement tonight so that there is no need to walk out when we know that we are strike ready and I will be on the line with you,” she said.
