Authorities on Tuesday found human remains on a property in Southcrest after state and federal officials served a search warrant.
The California Highway Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted a search at 3443 Newton Ave., according to San Diego police, after CHP investigators “developed information” leading them to suspect human remains could be found at the site.
The San Diego police Cold Case/Missing Persons unit and the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office assisted the CHP and FBI at the Newton location, which sits just off Interstate 15.
Investigators continued to process the scene after the discovery, police said in a news release. They offered no information on the condition of the remains or if they are believed to belong to one person or more.
Though the CHP and FBI were involved, since the remains were found in the city of San Diego, San Diego police detectives, along with the District Attorney’s Office, will investigate.
The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will work to determine the identity of the person/s involved and the cause of death.
