ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Threat Tracker is Yellow Tuesday for wintry conditions. Areawide snow will continue much of the morning with a few inches likely. Today’s snow consistency is wet and slippery in nature. Temperatures are also well below freezing, so be careful on the roads as icy and snowy conditions develop. Snow totals will average 2 to 4 inches with a little less to the west and more in the Finger Lakes where 4 to 6 inches are possible. The storm is quick moving and most of the snow will wind down around midday into the afternoon. Having said that we need to watch for a band of lake effect that may develop over Lake Ontario and move south later today and early evening with a burst of snow for the evening commute. After that band clears the snow will quickly end into tonight and quieter weather moves in for Wednesday.
Our next system to watch will be a strong cold front on Thursday. Along the front some wind and snow will move into the region and may impact the morning commute Thursday. Behind that front some very cold weather arrives with a brief opportunity for lake snow Thursday and temps staying in the 20s during the day and falling at night towards 10 degrees. Cold weather sticks around through the weekend into next week with some chances for light snow and lake effect.
