A massive fire tore through an apartment building early Saturday in northwest suburban Carpentersville, displacing a total of 23 families, village officials said.
The fire occurred at the Meadowdale Apartments near Lake Marian Road and Meadowdale Court. According to fire officials, the first engine crew arrived within minutes and began an offensive attack to extinguish the flames.
Authorities said the fire extended from the first floor to the roof of the three-story building. One person was treated for smoke inhalation but released at the scene.
As of late Saturday morning, firefighters remained on the scene, focusing on overhaul efforts.
Village President John Skillman addressed the fire in a social media post, saying the village and its partners are working to ensure the impacted families have the “support and resources they need during this difficult time.”
A donation drop-off site has been established at the Village of Carpentersville Public Works Building, 1075 Tamarac Dr., for anyone willing to provide items to those affected.
“Your generosity will go a long way in helping our neighbors get back on their feet,” Skillman said.
The displaced families were being assisted by the American Red Cross and the local Moose Lodge.
