American Carli Cronk closed out the swimming competition at the 2025 Summer Deaflympics with a flourish on Tuesday in Tokyo, setting yet another world record en route to winning her seventh gold medal of the competition.

Cronk, a current sophomore at the University of Notre Dame, clocked 2:01.77 in the women’s 200 freestyle to edge out Italy’s Viola Scotta Di Carlo (2:02.12) and break the deaf world record of 2:03.65, which she set at the 2024 U.S. Summer Championships.

Cronk, 19, also set world records en route to winning golds in the women’s 400 free, 100 fly and 200 fly individually at the meet, and she was also a part of the U.S.’ gold medal-winning mixed 4×100 free and 4×100 medley relays. Cronk also won gold and set a Deaflympics Record in the 400 IM, and added a silver in the 50 fly to bring her medal tally up to eight.

A second world record fell on the night in the men’s 50 free, where Ukrainian Illia Sultanov fired off a time of 23.00 to out-touch American Matt Klotz (23.05) for gold as both men went under Klotz’s longstanding world record of 23.14 set in 2018.

Another highlight from the session came from American Marcus Titus, who won the men’s 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:02.51, lowering the Deaflympics Record of 1:02.86 set by Ukrainian Denys Nakonechnyi in the semis. Nakonechnyi won silver in the final in 1:02.84.

Coming into the meet, the Deaflympics Record stood at 1:03.51, set by South African Terence Parkin, while Titus owns the deaf world record at 1:00.00, both set in 2009.

Titus, 39, also won individual gold in the 50 breast earlier in the meet.

Closing the meet out in the men’s 4×100 medley relay, the quartet of Klotz, Titus, Syler Pizzolato and Collin Davis combined for a time of 3:50.79 to win gold.

In the women’s 4×100 medley relay, China’s squad of Peng Huidi, Xu Xueyan, Shen Ying and Yang Hanying claimed victory in 4:30.77, easily topping runner-up Great Britain (4:33.12).
