ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A strong, well defined cold front will be crossing the area late Wednesday. This means strong winds will be developing with a rapid drop to the temperature. Be prepared for a change from spring-like conditions to winter-like conditions by Thanksgiving day. Rochester is still on the warm side of this weather system – at least for the next 24 hours. That means occasioanal rain and milld temperatures through Wednesday. But the transition will happen late Wednesday into Thursday.
Winds may gust close to 50 miles per hour for Thursday and Friday. Unfortunately, this means there is the chance for isolated power outages. As this cold air pours in, snow will be developing off of Lake Erie. Initially most of the accumulation will be well southwest of Rochester where conditions for driving will become difficult by Thursday morning in portions of Wyoming County.
Accumulation for the immediate Rochester area during this time period should be minor. However, the winds will begin to shift later Thursday and Friday with snow developing off Lake Ontario. It is Friday that the Rochester area – especially into Wayne County- will see accumulating snow. At this point, Rochester should see a manageable amount of snowfall in the range of a dusting to three inches with greater amounts into the eastern end of Wayne County. For all of this reasons, the News10NBC First Alert meteorologists have issued a yellow alert for Thursday and Friday.
