Sydney Airport has launched a tender seeking a panel of architectural and engineering companies to oversee a five-year, US$3.9bn (A$6bn) capital works programme.
It’s a new approach for the airport, which previously appointed consultants on a project-by-project basis.
The airport has also tendered for an architectural design and engineering firm to create a new terminal that combines Terminals 2 and 3, which are currently domestic terminals.
It will be one of the biggest and most complex projects ever undertaken by the airport, it said.
It involves building new terminal space and 12 new gates for both international and domestic travel to meet the airport’s goal of handling 72 million passengers a year by 2045.
“To put the scale of our infrastructure programme into context, we will be submitting more major development applications over the next five years than we have over the last 20,” said Paul Willis, Sydney Airport’s group executive of planning and delivery.
“Appointing a panel and partnering for the long term will deliver greater consistency and efficiency across our entire pipeline and ensure we get the design excellence and innovation to support Sydney Airport’s long-term growth.”
