Thanksgiving week in the Chicago area will start out mild, the NBC 5 Storm Team said, with cloudy skies overhead, scattered rain and temperatures in the low 50s. But as the week inches closer to Turkey Day, the weather will be wintry — with cold, wind and snow.
“Showers and comfortable temperatures today, but then our temperatures really take a turn,” NBC 5 Storm Team meteorologist Pete Sack said Sack added that conditions over the weekend were expected to get “messy.”
According to Sack, Monday will see a high of 52 degrees with clouds increasing by midday. Later in the afternoon and overnight, scattered rain showers will move in, with the wet weather expected to stick around for the Tuesday morning commute.
While Tuesday will see a high of 55 degrees, Sack said, another round of scattered showers was expected to arrive around 8 p.m. After that, “get ready for windy conditions, chilly temps and some flurries,” Sack said.
A “powerful cold front” will sweep across the Chicago area Tuesday night, the National Weather Service posted on X, with strong, westerly winds and gusts as high as 45 miles-per-hour.
A blustery day was in store for the busy travel day Wednesday, with temperatures dropping into the mid-to-upper 30s.
Thanksgiving Day, Sack said, will be sunnier, with a high of 33 degrees.
“Not quite as windy, but still blustery and cold,” the NWS said. In western Michigan, snow was expected.
Friday will see a high of 32 degrees, Sack said, with chances for snow developing overnight and the weekend looking “rather messy.
Temperatures remain in the 30s Saturday, with snow and some rain leading into Sunday. The NWS warned the potential for accumulating snow could lead to travel-related impacts, though it was still too soon to tell.
This is an early “tap on the shoulder” for potential accumulating snow related travel impacts on Sat. While we already have a 60% chance of snow in forecast for Sat, it’s much too early to narrow down specific details with this system.
