ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Prep held its first back-to-school bash, welcoming more than 450 new students and their families with donated supplies and resources.
The celebration included free backpacks and books for every new student, thanks to a $25,000 donation. Families could also sign up for college savings programs and register for school on site.
School leaders say this is the first event of its kind for all seven schools.
“This is our first annual regional. So, schools have done things individually, but this is the first time that like all seven of our schools are here, represented, to welcome our families,” said Chassity Wells, Senior Director of Enrollment.
“I think there’s a need for our families, and I think we want to remove the barriers that families may have getting ready for school, and so I think that seeing that there’s a line around the block really makes me feel good and makes me realize we’re giving families what they need,” she added.
Classes for all students at Rochester Prep begin Aug. 26. That’s more than two weeks before the Rochester School District.
