Bears 31, Steelers 28: Win No. 8 Was Great ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

There is something poetic about Aaron Rodgers being forced to watch helplessly as the Chicago Bears picked up a win against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday at Soldier Field.

FINAL: Chicago Bears 31, Pittsburgh Steelers 28 (ESPN BOX SCORE)

Thoughts on another wild win in Week 12

UPDATED PLAYOFF ODDS: With that win, The Athletic’s NFL Playoff Simulator gives the Bears a 56 percent chance of making the playoffs with six games remaining on their 2025 regular-season schedule. That number figures to change depending on how things shake out in other games. We’ll monitor that number and provide an update tomorrow. Are you happy now? The Bears continue to win close games. But this time, they did it against a team with a winning record. OK, so that team was quarterbacked by Mason Rudolph. Big whoop. Still counts. Besides, Rudolph came into this game with a winning record (9-8-1) as a Steelers starting quarterback. He has also started a playoff game. Clearly, the powers that be in Pittsburgh trust him enough to manager a game. Plus, I know better than to overlook a backup quarterback. That darn Ravens loss happened LESS THAN A MONTH AGO.

CHICAGO BEARS WEEK 12 INSTANT GRADES

DJ Moore balled out on Sunday. He turned seven targets into a team-leading five receptions and a game-high 64 receiving yards. Moore scored a pair of touchdowns, which were his first receiving scores since the team’s Week 3 win against the Dallas Cowboys. This is the latest in a season in which Moore has been on a winning team. And it sure looks like he wants to be a winning player down the stretch. I’m here for it! Did we see a passing of the torch in the backfield? Kyle Monangai (12 carries, 48 yards, 1 TD) out-touched D’Andre Swift (9 touches, 29 total yards) on Sunday. Monangai looked like the better and more explosive back. Meanwhile, Swift was credited with a lost fumble. I wish Chicago had healthier backups to give Swift some time to rest up after spending time on the injury report earlier in the week. But this feels like an all hands on deck situation. Three Bears

Caleb Williams — This is the worst play I’ve ever seen from Caleb Williams…

… and yet, I won’t waste too much time thinking about it because he threw 3 touchdown passes and finished the day with a 104.3 passer rating. Williams did enough to get the Bears in the end zone enough times to secure a victory.

Dennis Allen — I’m not sure how to grade DA’s performance as a defensive play caller on Sunday because of the injuries. I don’t love that the Steelers were able to rack up 186 rushing yards and two touchdowns. It is never fun to see your defense cough up an average of 5.2 yards per carry. But that defense came up with a fumble, an interception, and two fourth-down stuffs.

Montez Sweat — Chicago’s highest-paid defensive player came up with some huge plays in Week 12. Sweat stuffed the stat sheet with 2 sacks, 3 tackles-for-loss, 2 quarterback hits, and 3 solo tackles. That might be the best game Sweat has played this year. Even though he should have had a third sack of Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph, I’d sign up for some more games like that where he has tallies in all the important defensive columns.

WHAT’S NEXT: vs. Philadelphia Eagles at 2 p.m. CT on Friday, Nov. 28 at Lincoln Financial Field (Amazon Prime Video)

Next up for the Bears is a road trip to Philly for a Black Friday showdown against the Eagles. It is a quick turnaround for a team that came into Sunday’s game against the Steelers banged up and left it with a handful of players who suffered injuries during the contest. Chicago’s football team might be battered and bruised after its Week 12 win, but there is no rest for the weary.
