The Bears Are “Hopeful” That Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon Can Come Off IR on Black Friday ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

While the Chicago Bears made a variety of transactions on Saturday in conjunction with the team’s latest injury issues, cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon remained on injured reserve. However, that they weren’t activated for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers doesn’t mean that the duo’s return isn’t in play. Heck, we could see them back in action on Black Friday when the Bears travel to Philadelphia to face the reigning Super Bowl champs.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler shares optimism from a Bears team that “is hopeful” that Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon could be activated from injured reserve before the squad’s Week 13 game against the Eagles:

Bears defensive backs Kyler Gordon and Jaylon Johnson – both questionable for Sunday vs. Pittsburgh – won’t be activated this week, per sources. But the team is hopeful that both could come off IR for next week against Philly if all goes well.

Chicago Bears Injury Report: Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon Updates

Cornerback Jaylon Johnson has been out since Week 2. It has been an injury-plaued year for the two-time Pro Bowl corner, who has dealt with groin and calf injuries this season that have limited him to just 20 snaps. Chicago opening Johnson’s 21-day window to return from injured reserve opened eyes, and his full participation in recent practices turned heads. It would have been nice to have CB1 back in the mix against Aaron Rodgers (or whoever the Steelers play at quarterback in Week 12). However, I feel oddly confident that Jaylon will be back in the fold on Friday against the Eagles.

Kyler Gordon’s injury history is a cause of concern for me. Gordon has never played a full 17-game schedule. But when Gordon is healthy, he is a game-changer in the secondary. The 25-year-old cornerback has played just two games this season. That isn’t what you want after an offseason in which Gordon signed a lucrative extension. But a return to action could help folks remember why they were excited about the 2022 second-round pick getting a new deal to stick around in the first place.

It would have been nice to have a full deck of defensive backs for Sunday’s Bears-Steelers game. But it makes sense for Chicago to bring back Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon on Friday, then see how their bodies respond after the mini-bye. At a minimum, it makes more sense than trying to play guys coming off injury twice in five days.
