The Chicago Bulls just had one of the most frustrating winning weeks I can remember.
Beat a Denver Nuggets team that was 10-2 and second in the West. Blow a 21-point lead to the banged-up Trail Blazers in 9 minutes before hitting a game-winning buzzer-beater. Get slapped in the face by the Miami Heat for the zillionth time. Narrowly avoid becoming the Washington Wizards’ second win of the 2025-26 season.
Somehow, someway, the Bulls went 3-1 over these four games and sit at 9-7. Nothing about this team has felt like an over .500 squad, and their net rating speaks to precisely that. They continue to be the ONLY winning team in the NBA to have a sub-zero net rating at -2.4. How freakin’ strange.
Yes, a win is a win. But at some point, you want to stop saying that. At some point, you need to feel good about the product you’re putting on the floor and have confidence in your group. This was seemingly Nikola Vucevic’s point following last night’s game. The big man has gone viral for his postgame conversation with K.C. Johnson after matching his season high with 28 points. As his teammates came to photobomb the camera and hype up Vucevic, the veteran couldn’t have looked more annoyed. He pushed Buzelis out of the way and stepped away from the mic to essentially tell Smith to get lost.Vooch was NOT having it with Jalen & Matas ?? pic.twitter.com/cvQSsIW3DY
— Bulls on CHSN (@CHSN_Bulls) November 23, 2025 Not only could you see the disdain in Vucevic’s face, but he was as blunt as you can be with a microphone in your face. He called out the entire team for this lackluster effort, even using one of basketball’s greatest insults: “Soft.”“Through three quarters, we were really soft. We had no resistance,” Vucevic said. “We didn’t do anything we talked about. We just played really soft. We played really bad … Obviously, we’re happy we won. But we can’t keep doing this. It’s not sustainable. We have to be better.”
I’ve seen some use this as another reason to hate on Vucevic. And, look, I agree that he is also part of the problem, especially defensively. But what did he say that was wrong? The Bulls were down double digits to the one-win Wizards for a large chunk of the game. They were seconds away from losing the game. As far as I’m concerned, a veteran leader is supposed to say exactly what Vucevic said, no matter the final score. Particularly with such a young and developing group in the locker room, the message can’t be that THIS is life in the NBA. Sure, there will always be a few ugly wins throughout the year, but the truly good teams minimize those performances. It’s become the norm for the Bulls. I also commend Vucevic for focusing a little more on one of the team’s greatest weaknesses over the last few games. Teams have started to feast on the offensive glass, and he appeared to take that personally on Saturday night. NINE of his 13 rebounds came on this side of the ball. Now, the Bulls still ended up losing the second-chance points battle, but his effort alone made a needed difference. Josh Giddey played better as yesterday’s game went on, setting up some key buckets down the stretch. This helped him finish with his fourth triple-double of the season, which puts him behind only Nikola Jokic (9) for the league lead. He scored 18 points with 12 rebounds, 11 assists, and 3 steals. The Bulls also shared that he has passed some major names on the all-time triple-double list. With 22 now under his belt, he has moved past Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, Chris Webber, and more. That’s pretty darn cool.Josh Giddey has his 22nd career triple-double!He passes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, Kyle Lowry, Michael Ray Richardson, and Chris Webber on the NBA's all-time list. pic.twitter.com/HmAvoCjDLP
— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) November 23, 2025 What’s not pretty darn cool is Giddey’s efficiency. After starting the season scoring at a league-best rate, we have seen the guard really struggle over the last week. He has shot a combined 40.0 percent from the field over the last three games. In fact, he’s only shot better than 42.0 percent ONCE in his last seven games. Now, he at least continues to get to the free-throw line more than at any other point in his career, but this is still a trend the Bulls need to see change soon. When they were 6-1, Giddey had shot 50+ percent from the field in five of those games. Coincidence? I think not! The Bulls’ schedule will now ease up in both workload and competition. They will play just three games this week against the Pelicans, Hornets, and Pacers. Those squads have a combined record of 8-41. If they want to show they have learned from this week and can stop playing up or down to their opponents, this is a great stretch to do just that. Blow someone out. Heck, blow out all three of them! The latest efficiency landscape describes the Bulls well. A slightly above-average offense with a very below-average defense. The Efficiency Landscape. What jumps out? pic.twitter.com/Ds0bgms4Kj

— Bulls on CHSN (@CHSN_Bulls) November 23, 2025 Thoughts on the Blackhawks’ new black uniforms? The Bears come into today without a single starting linebacker. What are they going to do? Even after signing a solid reliever, the Cubs are in the market for bullpen help.MORE FROM BLEACHER NATION: Go Ad Free | Subscribe to the BN Newsletter
