BOSTON – The Boston University men’s swimming and diving team ignited the Terrier Invite with five top-three performances during the A Finals on Friday (Nov. 21) at the FitRec Competition Pool, the first of the three-day event.

Sophomore Giovanni Sullo snagged the victory in the 500 freestyle, winning handily in 4:23.70, finishing nearly three seconds ahead of last year’s champion in the event, Ben Huffman of Boston College.

BU’s evening began with 200 freestyle relay, where a close contest with Boston College saw the Terrier quartet place second in 1:20.34, less than five-tenths behind the Eagles.

Senior Tony Ponomarev joined junior Henry Dvorak as well as freshmen Dimitri Melnikov and Nathan Lee in the 400 medley relay. That group was second in 3:15.09 only to Boston College, who set a pool record in 3:14.17.

Ponomarev was one of four Terrier qualifiers in the 200 IM, following through with a 1:49.78 in the 200 individual medley that placed third.

Earlier that day, two Terriers earned top-five results in the 1-meter dive. Freshman Ethan Wong was third with a 311.4 score while junior Zein Mahana was fifth at 303.3.

Day two of the Terrier Invite begins with the preliminary round at 10 a.m. on Saturday (Nov. 22). The finals are set for 6 p.m.

The Boston University women’s swimming and diving team posted two individual wins, two school records and a relay victory in the 400 medley relay to set the tone on the first day of the Terrier Invite on Friday (Nov. 21) at the FitRec Competition Pool.

Senior Haley Newman shattered the first school record of the weekend, winning the 200 individual medley in 2:01.11, 11 hundredths faster than Erin Nabney ’19 and her 2:01.22 performance.

Freshman Molly Barber picked up the second individual victory for the Terriers in the 50 freestyle, clocking in at 22.90 seconds to overcome the Huskies’ May Bradburn at 23.00.

The night session wrapped up with a school record in the 400 medley relay with an all-freshmen lineup featuring Barber, Danka Ndubuisi, Hadar Miller and Kiki Rampersad. BU convincingly won in 3:41.41 to break a record previously established in 2024.

A heated matchup that went down to the final strokes ignited the evening session in the 200 Freestyle Relay, where BU’s quartet clocked in at 1:32.10, just 11 hundredths behind first-place Northeastern.

Earlier in the day, freshman Alayna Kennedy paced the Terriers in the 1-meter dive, tallying a score of 252.3 to place fourth.

Day two of the Terrier Invite begins with the preliminary round at 10 a.m. on Saturday (Nov. 22). The finals are set for 6 p.m.

BOSTON, Mass. –  Boston College swimming and diving was successful on the first day of the Terrier Invite. The Eagles broke one school record being broken along with six top-10 times in the prelims.Julienne Saliou set the record for the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.46, which was the second- fastest time in prelims. She also swam the fifth-fastest 500 free in program history en route to finishing third in that prelim. The Eagles continued to set the bar high during the finals, as another school record fell and two pool records were set. For the second straight time at BU, the men’s 4×200 relay broke the school record as they swam 1:19.87, which also set the pool record. The other pool record to fall came in the last race of the night as the 400 medley relay team swam 3:14.17 to win the relay. Evan Tack was the lone individual winner in the 200 IM.
