The event kicks off with the 100 back, followed by the 200 breast, and then the 500 free and 50 free will go back-to-back to close things out.

WOMEN’S 100 BACKSTROKE – PRELIMS

NCAA Record: 48.10, Gretchen Walsh (Virginia) – 2024 2026 NCAA Qualifying Time: 52.65 2025 NCAA Invite Time: 51.68

After cracking 50 seconds for the first time in the 100 fly last night, Indiana’s Miranda Grana continued her momentum on Day 3 in Columbus, posting a very impressive prelim time in the 100 back.

The Hoosier junior touched in 50.79 to narrowly miss her season-best of 50.75, set in October at the USC Invite.

Her teammate Mya DeWitt shattered her season-best time by more than a second and came within three-tenths of her personal best in 51.07, already faster than she was at this meet last year (51.86 in the 100 back final, 51.56 in the 400 medley relay).

UCLA’s Claudia Yovanovich, who set a best time of 52.24 two weeks ago in a dual with UCLA, cracked 52 for the first time in 51.73 to advance in 3rd.

MEN’S 100 BACKSTROKE – PRELIMS

NCAA Record: 43.20, Hubert Kos (Texas) – 2025 2026 NCAA Qualifying Time: 46.29 2025 NCAA Invite Time: 45.26

‘A’ Final Qualifiers:

Owen McDonald (IU), 44.25 Raekwon Noel (IU), 44.91 Miroslav Knedla (IU), 45.33 Cooper Morley (PSU), 45.63 Matthew Bittner (PSU), 45.74 Rian Graham (LOU), 46.02 Lysander Osman (UKY), 46.15 Jackson Millard (LOU), 46.19 Dylan Burau (PUR), 46.20 Filip Kosinski (LOU) / Alex Hotta (PUR), 46.24

Indiana picked up the top three spots in the heats of the men’s 100 back, led by senior Owen McDonald.

McDonald, who was 6th in the 100 back at the 2025 NCAA Championships, ripped a time of 44.25 in the heats, which is the fastest in the NCAA so far this season based on times coming into the week. It is his first time swimming the event this season, though it’s worth noting he is considerably faster than he was at last year’s OSU Invite (44.93 in the final).

McDonald’s Hoosier teammate Raekwon Noel knocked nearly a full second off his lifetime best in 44.91, obliterating the 45.87 mark he set last month to crack 45 seconds for the first time.

Miroslav Knedla rounded out the top-three sweep for IU in 45.33, just shy of the season-best (45.22) he set at the USC Invite.

Tying for 10th was Louisville’s Filip Kosinski and Purdue’s Alex Hotta, setting up a potential swim-off for the last spot in the ‘A’ final.

WOMEN’S 200 BREASTSTROKE – PRELIMS

NCAA Record: 2:01.29, Kate Douglass (Virginia) – 2023 2026 NCAA Qualifying Time: 2:11.27 2025 NCAA Invite Time: 2:09.58

Louisville senior Mia Cheatwood took down her year-old best time to lead the women’s 200 breaststroke prelims on Thursday morning, clocking 2:07.56.

The swim for Cheatwood improves on her previous best of 2:07.74, set in early November 2024 during a dual with Notre Dame. Earlier this season, Cheatwood was just shy of that PB in a dual with Kentucky, producing a time of 2:07.85.

Ohio State’s Maria Ramos Najji, who was the runner-up in last night’s 100 breast, shattered her personal best time by more than five seconds in 2:08.24, dropping from the 2:13.95 she set at the 2025 Big Tens. Last night, Najji set a big PB of 58.00 in the 100 breast, narrowly falling to Joleigh Crye by one one-hundredth of a second.

Crye, a Cincinnati senior who broke 58 for the first time in the 100 last night (57.99), set another personal best this morning in the 200 breast, sneaking her way into the final in 10th in 2:13.45.

Louisville’s Kim Herkle improved on her two-week-old season-best time in 2:10.08 to advance in 3rd.

MEN’S 200 BREASTSTROKE – PRELIMS

NCAA Record: 1:46.35, Leon Marchand (ASU) – 2024 2026 NCAA Qualifying Time: 1:54.95 2025 NCAA Invite Time: 1:52.89

 ‘A’ Final Qualifiers:

Indiana saw Texas getting the breaststroke glory and fired back.

The Hoosier freshman duo of Noah Cakir and Josh Bey showed out in the heats of the men’s 200 breast, both winning their respective heats in lifetime best fashion to advance 1-3 in tonight’s final.

Cakir, who set best times in the prelims and final of the 100 breast on Wednesday, did it again this morning, touching in 1:52.75 in the 200 breast to crush his previous PB of 1:54.19 set at last month’s USC Invite. The swim also puts him under the 2025 NCAA invite time (1:52.89).

Bey also set a new personal best, clocking 1:53.00 to chip three-quarters of a second off his old PB of 1:53.74 set at the 2025 NCSAs this past March.

Louisville’s Jake Eccleston set a new season-best to qualify 2nd, while last night’s 100 breast winner, Penn State’s Mariano Lazzerini, clocked 1:53.06 to narrowly miss his personal best of 1:52.94.

Indiana had five total swimmers make the ‘A’ final, with Cakir and Bey joined by Toby Barnett, Alexei Avakov and Travis Gulledge.

Ohio State had a very strong showing in the prelims of the women’s 500 free, putting three swimmers into the top four spots and four in the top seven, all underclassmen.

Sophomore Mila Nikanorov led the charge in 4:42.07, undercutting her season-best of 4:42.52 to qualify 1st into tonight’s final. Last season, Nikanorov was 4:40.14 in the OSU Invite prelims and then went 4:38.84 in the final.

Buckeye freshman Adair Shaw delivered a new lifetime best of 4:43.91 to qualify 3rd overall, improving from the 4:44.47 mark she set at the Raleigh Rumble, while sophomore teammate Emma Finlin set a season-best of 4:44.67 to move through in 4th.

Ohio State also had sophomore Sienna Angove advance 7th in 4:45.40 from one of the early heats, a massive new best after going 4:53.12 during an early-season dual in October 2024.

Like OSU, Louisville also put three swimmers into the top six this morning, with sophomore Leticia Fassina Romao, junior Summer Cardwell and sophomore Daria Golovaty placing 2nd, 5th and 6th, respectively.

Fassino Romao, a sophomore, went 4:42.94 for the #2 spot, just shy of the lifetime best she set earlier this month against Kentucky (4:42.22).

Zalan Sarkany posted the top time and Luke Whitlock looked good in his first swim of the season as Indiana claimed the top two seeds into tonight’s final of the men’s 500 free.

Sarkany, 7th in the 500 free at NCAAs last season, put together a controlled morning swim to qualify 1st overall in a time of 4:12.28, going out quick over the first 200 (1:37.70) before settling into 25-high splits down the stretch.

The former ASU Sun Devil came into the week ranked 2nd in the NCAA with his season-best of 4:11.39 set at the USC Invite.

Whitlock, who transferred over from Florida in the offseason, was racing in an early heat with no entry time, and went out quick in 1:37.55 at the 200, and though he faded a touch, still posted the #2 time of the session in 4:14.30.

Yale’s Noah Millard, who sat out of the 200 free on Wednesday, clocked 4:14.51 to advance 3rd into the final, knocking more than six seconds off his season-best. Last season, Millard won the 500 at the OSU Invite in 4:11.29.

Louisville freshman Oscar Isberg had a big performance to win Heat 4 and qualify 5th into the final, dropping more than three seconds off his personal best in 4:15.05.

Along with Sarkany and Whitlock, Indiana also landed Aaron Shackell, Luke Ellis and Andrew Shackell in the ‘A’ final, giving them five of the 10 lanes tonight.

Dennis has been on good form so far this week, anchoring Louisville’s 200 medley relay on Tuesday night in 20.79 and then splitting 20.75 on last night’s 200 free relay.

Also showing impressive form so far this week has been Indiana freshman Liberty Clark, who broke 22 seconds for the first time last night leading off the Hoosiers’ 200 free relay (21.61). She followed up with her second sub-22 swim this morning in 21.74, advancing in 2nd, and has a shot at the IU school record of 21.56 in tonight’s final.

Louisville sophomore Caroline Larsen also broke 22 seconds this morning, firing off a time of 21.89 after leading off the Cardinals’ 200 free relay in a season-best of 21.71 last night. Her personal best stands at 21.63 from the 2025 ACCs.

Kristina Paegle, the Indiana program record holder, qualified 4th overall with a new season-best of 22.07, while Louisville freshman Julie Mishler was 5th in 22.09. Mishler has been as fast as 22.01 this season, but split 21.34 on the 200 free relay, so we could see her sub-22 for the first time in her NCAA career tonight.
