"The overwhelming support and love from my musician friends, fans, friends and family will prove these shows to be something special."
Malo first shared his cancer diagnosis publicly earlier this year, later revealing in a candid update that “things have taken a turn” as the disease progressed. In that message, he explained that he had developed LMD and would begin radiation, with chemotherapy and alternative therapies also on the table. Despite the seriousness of his condition, he emphasized that he felt surrounded by love and support, writing that he was “in no way alone, or scared,” and praising his wife, sons, family, team, crew, band and fans.
As his treatment plan intensified, The Mavericks canceled their remaining 2025 tour dates—except for the “something special” promised at the Ryman. The newly announced tribute shows are that promise fulfilled.
