Chicago police were investigating after a woman was found dead following a house fire in the Washington Park neighborhood on the city’s South Side, authorities said.
The fire was reported at approximately 5:02 a.m. along South Calumet Avenue near East 53rd Street. Police said the Chicago Fire Department extinguished the fire then located a woman who was unresponsive. She was later pronounced dead.
As of Saturday morning, the cause of the fire hadn’t been determined, and detectives were conducting a death investigation. An autopsy was planned by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
