Perfect at Home, Nikola Vucevic Has Been Awesome, The Portland Pick, and Other Bulls Bullets ...Middle East

Do you think Billy Donovan keeps checking the Eastern Conference standings just to make sure it’s real? I know I do!

The Chicago Bulls have started the season 5-0 at home! While I am not as obsessed with “home court advantage” as Arturas Karnisovas, I think we can all agree that you’re supposed to play better in your own building. For whatever reason, the Bulls have been awful at that over the past few years. They have finished below .500 at the United Center in each of the last two seasons, and this included an 18-23 finish during the 2024-25 campaign. The Bulls were also the only team in the entire league last season to finish with a losing record at home and a winning record on the road. Yes, you read that right. They were 21-20 when playing in enemy territory. How freakin’ weird, right? For what it’s worth, their next home game will pretty easily be their toughest yet. After two straight on the road this weekend, they will welcome Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs to Chicago. While this squad has lost two straight after starting 5-0, I think we can all agree that they remain one of the most intimidating teams in the league because of their extraterrestrial superstar. If the Bulls were able to pull off this win, however, their home win streak could go pretty deep into November. Their next four home games would be Miami, Washington, Brooklyn, and Indiana. Those four teams currently have a combined record of 4-25. This is also part of the reason why coming out on top of this current stretch would be so darn important. Following their battles with Milwaukee, Cleveland, San Antonio, and Detroit … the schedule eases up A LOT. If they somehow managed to still be at the top of the East by midway through next week, they will have a very solid chance at staying there as we enter December. And, well, that would be extremely impressive! Mandatory Credit: Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images Nikola Vučević doesn’t just deserve some flowers; he deserves a full bouquet with an edible arrangement on the side! The Chicago Bulls can not ask for much more from the big man. Despite the constant trade rumors and the recent youth movement, the big man has remained locked in. Not only has he been a true professional, but he has looked extremely motivated on the court. He’s following up a career year shooting the ball with an even more efficient effort, averaging 19.3 points on 58.4 percent shooting from the field. Vucevic is also continuing to show that he can be a dependable floor spacer, beginning the year with an excellent 15-31 from long range. But that’s not all! He is averaging 3.7 assists AND a career-high 12.0 rebounds a night, which includes 3.0 a game on the offensive end. Look, we all know he has his shortcomings defensively, but Vucevic has undoubtedly been a major part of establishing this team’s identity on both ends. He has continued to remind people of his underrated passing instincts, as well as helped provide some of that needed physicality around the rim. He really has looked more energized and active than in years past. He is taking guys off the dribble to the rim, flying in for tip-ins, and hustling in transition. I have to admit, I was extremely skeptical of how Vucevic would fit into this team’s style of play. Even with a strong finish to last year, it really felt like we could see his usage decline this season. However, all Vucevic has done is buy into the Bulls’ new system and demonstrate a shocking adaptability. The question now is … what the heck do the Chicago Bulls do with him? Before the season started, almost everyone agreed that surveying the trade market for Vucevic remained a priority. Most signs have pointed toward him walking in 2026 free agency for a more competitive environment. Well, now the Bulls are showing signs of being an early playoff threat, and he has been a critical part of that. Is it smart to keep riding things out until the summer and hold onto his veteran leadership? What if teams are willing to give up for his services has increased pretty dramatically? It’s a tough question to answer right now, but I think the Bulls still have to play the long game here. The main reason not to entertain trade offers is if you’re interested in re-signing him this summer, but he will be 36 years old next October. Unless it’s an extremely cost-effective deal, cashing in on his hot start and spending that money elsewhere is likely the wisest decision. A very great point here from K.C. Johnson of Chicago Sports Network. Portland is off to a 5-3 start. Remember, they made offseason moves that aligned with returning to the postseason. If they can do that, their 2026 first-rounder will end up in the Bulls’ pocket. Yes, that could mean another fun youngster to add to the mix in a deep draft … or it could mean another valuable trade chip at this deadline!

Portland is 5-3 after impressively handing OKC first loss. It’s early, but Bulls will get Trail Blazers’ first-round pick in 2026 as part of long-ago Lauri Markkanen sign-and-trade if Trail Blazers aren’t in lottery.

He is constantly self-evaluating and adapting to the team around him. He isn’t the kind of coach who forces you to play a certain way.

Thought this was interesting from Billy Donovan — one of his regrets from last season was overcomplicating the defense. Felt that he switched into “gimmicky” looks too often to compensate for the lack of physicality rather than meeting the problem head-on. t.co/2mZCZ19dYX pic.twitter.com/y6Y68EPGGK
