Phoenix Raceway and the unseasonably hot desert sun are ready to crown the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series Champ. Who succumbs to the sweltering heat and immense pressure? Which driver reigns supreme? Let’s review the pre-race on-track action and the updated 2025 Cup Series Championship odds.
Tires Tires Tires!
Oh boy… it was fitting that on Halloween, a potential nightmare scenario played out during Friday’s extended practice session with numerous cars suffering flat tires. This included Championship 4 driver Chase Briscoe, who, as a result, ran the fewest laps of his three competitors. Afterwards, both James Small (19 crew chief) and Rudy Fugle (24 crew chief) attributed the tire failures to team aggressiveness on pressures, much more so than Goodyear or this batch of rubber.
During the elongated session, Ryan Blaney announced his presence and made sure to put the field on notice that, despite not being in the championship hunt, he was still here to win. Among the Championship 4 drivers, the fastest was William Byron, still riding a wave of momentum, and possibly running the same engine from Martinsville that helped him defeat Blaney for the final spot here in Phoenix last weekend.
Championship Race Qualifying Results
*Mark J. Rebilas-Imagn ImagesLike we’ve grown to expect in this format, the Championship 4 drivers stood out in qualifying, with all but one grabbing a spot on the front two rows. That one was shockingly the best qualifier of the group and the Series this year, Chase Briscoe, who will chase the trophy from 12th. His teammate Denny Hamlin continued his strong start to the weekend by claiming the pole ahead of the HMS duo of William Byron (2nd) and Kyle Larson (3rd). Rounding out the top 5 and making sure to announce they’re still here to party were Penske teammates Austin Cindric and Ryan Blaney.
2025 NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race Odds
It’s no secret where the books lean with their odds during the Championship Race, as those drivers have always seemed to receive a slight “boost” in horsepower for the race. Whether that’s true or not is up for debate, likely not factual, but what is true is that those on the outside treat them differently, and as Josh Berry says below, “with a little more respect”.
How would Josh Berry, a driver many, at least in the betting community, expect to mix it up near the front, race a #Championship4 driver for a win? ? pic.twitter.com/f50Bxg7Q3V
— brian twining (@Brian_Twining) November 2, 2025This unique factor has negatively impacted the race-winning potential for every non-Champ 4 driver since the format was unveiled a decade ago. Of course, we did see Ross Chastain win in 2023 while not competing for a title, so it can be overcome. This year presents quite possibly the best opportunity for a non-championship driver to win, particularly from Berry’s manufacturer, Ford, which has no skin in the game.
This potential storyline is highlighted by the current race odds, which see Ryan Blaney priced comparatively to the championship 4 drivers. A price that not only sheds light on Blaney’s strength here at Phoenix, but also the expectation that the 12-team and perhaps other Fords are looking to crash the party, if you will.

Master Bankroll Management: This is your foundation. Always stick to a set budget to protect your capital and survive losing streaks. Never chase losses with money you can’t afford—your budget is your shield. Make Data-Driven Decisions: The sharpest bettors analyze. Replace intuition with reliable data, examining driver/team statistics, track history, and practice results to find value the public misses. Consistent success comes from finding an edge, not guessing. Build Mental Toughness: Betting is high-emotion, making a strong mindset vital. Don’t let your feelings dictate your wagers; mental toughness helps you avoid impulsive bets (tilt) after a loss or overconfidence after a big win.Always remember to Bet Responsibly. Betting should add excitement, not cause financial strain. Be aware of the risks and know that resources are available if you need help.
