Outside money being used to influence Greeley election

I’ve lived in Greeley long enough to know that our city’s strength lies in its people — the small business owners, volunteers, parents, and neighbors who show up every day to make this community better. That’s why what’s happening in this election has me deeply concerned.

In just the past few weeks, nearly $100,000 of outside PAC has poured into our municipal races, largely supporting incumbents Dale Hall and Ryan Roth and their political allies. Both are closely aligned with developer Martin Lind, whose influence is shaping Greeley’s growth and priorities — often in ways that benefit big money over our community.

Equally troubling are the actions tied to Greeley Forward. Their registered agent, Tom Donkle, was caught on camera returning stolen campaign signs — behavior that undermines the integrity of our democratic process. Greeley Forward has also spent over $30,000 in an attempt to discourage citizens from signing petitions and voicing their opinions on important community projects, further silencing the voices of residents.

Meanwhile, new Super PACs, like Good for Greeley, are spending tens of thousands of dollars attacking candidates committed to transparency and community-first leadership, $69,132 in Oct. 13-24 alone. To put it in perspective, that’s around the median Greeley household income spent in one day to try to drown out the voices of everyday residents.

Local elections should reflect the will of the people, not the agendas of millionaires or outside developers. Greeley deserves leaders who are accountable, transparent, and dedicated to strengthening our neighborhoods, supporting local businesses, and keeping our community safe.

This election is a reminder that every vote matters. Residents have the power to demand integrity and leadership that prioritizes the people of Greeley over the interests of PACs and developers. Let’s ensure that our city’s future is decided by the citizens who live here, not the dollars trying to silence them.

History shows demonstrations can be effective

For those who claim that the No King demonstrations are worthless and ineffective, take a look at America during the last 110 years. Women fought and won their right to vote through peaceful demonstrations. The protesters were confronted with being sent to jail. Men were directed to prohibit their wives/daughters from participating in the marches, with men actually physically assaulting the protesters. Rights for women prevailed. In the ’50s and ’60s protesters marched for civil rights for people of color, often being met by extreme violence perpetuated by racists and bigots. The Civil Rights Act was passed because of the bravery of those demonstrators.

Today the No Kings protest face accusations from the GOP that No King demonstrators are paid, violent domestic terrorists. If you look at images of last Saturday’s rallies, you will find grandmas and grandpas, sometimes using walkers, parents and children chanting they love America and loudly reminding us all that these demonstrations is what democracy looks like. Yes, the demonstrators stand behind antifa, antifascism. Antifa is not a “dark” organization. It is taking a hard stand against fascism. My question to those who criticize these marches, why aren’t you a follower of the antifa belief? If you disagree with antifa, then you support fascism, dictatorship and the abolishment of our Constitution.

The millions of people who marched and rallied on Saturday are true patriots who are demonstrating to protect our country, our democracy and our Constitution.

The failure of American politicians on display

Barnum and Bailey. One a Republican and One a Democrat.

As Americans watch from the sidelines, an empty playing field in the House of Representatives reflects the failure of American politicians to humble themselves to the level of the common resident.

Real leadership commands compromise. Voters in America, along with the rest of the world, tune in from time to time to shake their heads in disgust. It resembles a two-tent circus with the same act playing in each tent. When the time comes to replace this cast of clowns, I will remember those who thought America was all about them. The sinking sand beneath their feet, will give way to the solid ground of “government of the people, for the people, by the people.”

Let us go out for coffee. The adage “the show must go on” is no longer true in the United States of America.
