Cypress Fairbanks Swim Club’s Jackson Hartzler has verbally committed to Ohio State University for the fall of 2027.
I am extremely excited to verbally announce that I will be continuing my Athletic and Academic career at Ohio State University! I would like to thank Coach Norm and Coach Bill along with the rest of the Ohio State coaching staff for the opportunity and helping me throughout the process. I would also like to thank my family, friends, and Coach Rick for supporting and believing in me. Finally, I want to thank God for blessing me with a talent and passion for this sport. Go Buckeyes!!!
Hartzler hails from Cypress, Texas, and represents Bridgeland High School. As a sophomore, Hartzler won the 200 IM at the UIL 6A State Championship, setting a lifetime best of 1:47.33 in the final. Additionally, he finished 6th in the 100 breast, touching in 55.03 after setting a personal best of 54.99 in the prelims.
Hartzler competed at the 2024 Winter Junior Championships – West this past December, where he set a personal best of 3:53.13 in the prelims of the 400 IM before taking 14th overall in the evening(3:54.39).. He also finished 23rd in the 200 IM (1:50.01).
At the Speedo Sectionals in Justin a few months later, Hartzler hads one of his most productive showings to date. There, he notched best times in multiple events, including the 100 free (47.59), 100 back (51.56), 200 free (1:39.70), 200 breast (2:00.17), 500 free (4:27.78), nd 1000 free (9:20.03).

Based on Hartzler’s best times, he would have finished 23rd in the 100 breast, 27th in the 200 breast, and 37th in the 200 IM at Big Tens.
The diverse range is a big green flag for Hartzler, with the impressive ability to stretch from the 100 breast all the way up to the 1000 free. As a junior in high school, his ceiling is very high.
