Colorado State interim head coach Tyson Summers announced Wednesday that redshirt junior quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi is no longer with the team.
Fowler-Nicolosi had been the team’s starting quarterback since early in the 2023 season but lost his starting job to sophomore Jackson Brousseau last month.
“Brayden has chosen to step away from the football team for the remainder of the season, but he handled everything extremely well. I’m very proud of him. I will vouch for him to anyone, anywhere, any time,” Summers said. “The guy has won a lot of football games here, been here for a long time and he’s had a challenging situation this year. I look forward to nothing but the best for him.”
Fowler-Nicolosi stepped into the starting role for the Rams prior to CSU’s game against Colorado in 2023, when he replaced then-starter Clay Millen. Fowler-Nicolosi started the remainder of that season and all of last year until early-season struggles caught up with him last month.
He was replaced by Brousseau in the third game of the season, and Brousseau has started every game since then.
Fowler-Nicolosi finished his CSU career with 6,938 passing yards with a 60% completion percentage. He threw for 38 touchdowns and had 29 interceptions while also rushing for six touchdowns in 31 games.
However, he completed 44 of 82 passes (54%) for only 488 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in three starts this season.
