WARSAW, N.Y. — A jury has found a man guilty of murdering a woman by strangling her inside her home in Wyoming County.

Michael Bellaire, 43, was found guilty of second-degree murder, strangulation, and grand larceny after a seven-day trial. He’s convicted of killing Cheryl Cook in Warsaw in November of 2023. Prosecutors say he stole her debit card and fled to Mexico after the murder.

Mexican authorities arrested Bellaire nearly a year later and he was extradited to Wyoming County. He faces 25 years to life in prison when he’s sentenced on Jan. 9.
