Bulls (Sadly) Waive Yuki Kawamura, Immediately Sign New Player to Two-Way Deal ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

The Chicago Bulls officially waived Yuki Kawamura on Friday afternoon.

An NBA fan-favorite, Kawamura joined the Chicago Bulls in Summer League before earning one of their three two-way contracts. The Japanese native seemingly came into training camp with a grip on his roster spot, only to suffer an injury that forced him to sit out the team’s final three preseason games. In his two performances against the Cavaliers, Kawamura scored a combined 6 points with 8 rebounds, 8 assists, and 1 steal.

According to Shams Charania, the Bulls have immediately filled Kawamura’s two-way spot with forward Trentyn Flowers. The 20-year-old went undrafted in 2024 out of the NBL in Australia before signing with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Chicago Bulls Waive Yuki Kawamura, Add a New Face

While the team has yet to share further details, Chicago Bulls PR shared with K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Sports Network that Yuki Kawamura’s dismissal is due to a medical condition. Once again, he missed the team’s final three preseason contests because of what was deemed a lower leg injury. Considering Kawamura played relatively well in a Bulls uniform, it feels fairly safe to assume his injury was ruled severe or potentially season-ending. Nevertheless, we should learn more soon.

If one thing is for sure, it will be a bummer for fans and players alike to see Kawamura go, especially if he has to miss extended time. The frisky five-foot-eight guard has slowly but surely started to prove his worth over the last two seasons. He has shown flashes as a high-level distributor and a hard-working on-ball defender despite his size. Kawamura also shot 41.0 percent from downtown on 6.5 attempts a night in the G League last season. If/when he can return healthy, I think it’s safe to assume someone will take another chance on the 24-year-old.

As for Trentyn Flowers, he was waived by the Clippers earlier this week after remaining on a two-way deal throughout much of the preseason. The six-foot-nine forward impressed during his rookie campaign in LA, so much so that the team had him appear in six big league games last season. Flowers averaged 17.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in his 42 appearances with the G League affiliate. He also shot a very impressive 47.5 percent from the field and 38.5 percent from three.

It’s unclear when Bulls fans will get their first look at Flowers, as the preseason officially wrapped up on Thursday night. The odds of him entering an NBA game early on in 2025-26 remain rather low, and the G League season will not officially start until the first week of November. Still, the signing gives Chicago another interesting and long developmental wing to evaluate closely this season.

P.S. The Bulls also added Mac McClung back to their G League roster earlier today …
