James “Radford” Walker, a Futures Championship relay winner and Winter Junior qualifier, has announced his verbal commitment to swim for the College of William & Mary beginning in the fall of 2027.
“After a lot of thought, I’m excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the College of William & Mary! First off, I would like to thank Coach Nate, Coach Mike, and Coach Caleb for giving me this amazing opportunity. Next, I would like to thank Coach Brooks and Coach Madison—without you two, none of this would have been possible. Finally, I would like to thank my mom for being my biggest supporter and for always believing in me. Go tribe!”
Originally from Pinehurst, NC, Walker is a senior at Baylor School in Chattanooga, TN, and has represented his school’s varsity swimming and diving team since his sophomore year. He also trains with Baylor Swim Club during the school year, where he primarily specializes in fly and mid-distance free, and swims with TAC Titans in North Carolina during the summers,
Walker posted a series of strong performances at the 2025 Timedrop Music City Invitational, clocking a lifetime best in two events. He took 2nd in the 200 fly (1:48.50 – PB) and 3rd in the 200 free (1:40.42 – PB), and he raced the 100 free (48.04), 500 free (4:46.60) and 100 fly (50.83). A few weeks later, Walker competed at the 2025 Winter Junior Championships East, where he contested the 200 free (1:43.68), 100 fly (50.03 – PB) and 200 fly (1:51.45).
At the 2026 TISCA (Tennessee Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association) State Championship in February, Walker took 3rd in the 500 free (4:31.74) and 4th in the 100 fly (48.40), setting personal best times in both. He also helped Baylor to a runner-up finish in the 200 medley relay, splitting 21.69 on the fly leg. Walker earned All-American honors for his performances in the three events.
Walker lowered some of his top times further later in the season, posting best times in the 100 free (46.13) and 200 free (1:39.62) at the Region 2 Championship and in the 200 fly (1:48.17) at the Speedo Southern Premier meet.
Walker turned in a series of top swims at the 2026 Futures Championship (LCM) in Greensboro, earning a second swim in three events. He placed 5th in the 200 fly (2:04.22 – PB), 8th in the 100 fly (55.88 – PB) and 28th in the 50 fly (25.97), in addition to racing the 100 free (55.65 – PB). He also helped his team to victory in the 400 medley relay, splitting 55.43 on the fly leg to mark 2nd-fastest fly split in the field.
