Ole Miss is trying to get a contract extension worked out with head coach Lane Kiffin, Rebels athletic director Keith Carter told The Ole Miss Spirit on Friday afternoon.
“I’d love to get something done like Indiana did with Curt Cignetti (on Thursday) before the silly season starts. We’ll see,” Carter said, per the report.
Kiffin has taken Ole Miss to great heights since he arrived in Oxford in 2020, going a combined 50-18 overall and 28-16 in the SEC in 5.5 seasons. This season has been a banner one for Kiffin and the Rebels, at least so far. They are ranked 5th in the AP Poll, stand 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the SEC going into a Week 8 mega matchup at No. 9 Georgia (3:30 p.m. ET, ABC).
With Kiffin at his greatest powers in Oxford right now, it’s no surprise that the school wants to lock him up for more years. On Thursday, Cignetti and Indiana agreed to an 8-year contract extension that will keep him in Bloomington through the 2033 regular season. Cignetti has the Hoosiers at No. 3 in the rankings, just in front of Kiffin’s Rebels, and now Carter reports that the school would like Kiffin to stay a lot longer than his existing deal calls for.
Kiffin is tied for the 11th-highest-paid coach in college football, according to USA Today’s 2025 head coaches salary database. He’s set to earn a total of $9 million in 2025, which doesn’t include bonuses, which is tied for 6th in the SEC.
