Book Club’s Mary Steenburgen Shares How She’ll ‘Remember’ Costar Diane Keaton ...Middle East

News by : (Us magazine) -

Mary Steenburgen is remembering late Book Club costar Diane Keaton as a style icon who took Hollywood by storm.

“This is how I will remember you. Dueling photos, you donned in your beloved polka dots, making me laugh and me, full of love and mad respect for your wild and unique artistry,” Steenburgen, 72, captioned a series of photos of Keaton wearing her signature tailored outfits via Instagram on Wednesday, October 15.

The caption continued, “I loved that you, who could struggle with social challenges, trusted me enough to come over for dinners and then, of course, dazzled everyone there with your crazy magic. I love that we both studied with Sandy Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse and that we both had cherished memories for all that, memories that we both loved revisiting together.”

Steenburgen also shed special light on Keaton’s dedication to being the best mother to kids Dexter, 29, and Duke, 25, and her beloved golden retriever, Reggie.

“I love how much you loved your family. I love how much you loved dogs. I loved your home design unique brilliance,” Steenburgen added. “I love how you called me obscene names and told me how much you hated me when you saw my house for the first time. It meant the world that you liked it so much. Thank you for every long funny voice message. I have never deleted any of them and now I never will.”

concluded, “Thank you for trying to sing harmony with Jane and Candice and me even though our harmonies were hideous. Thank you for being a massive hero of mine before I knew you and then surpassing that by a country mile when I knew you well. You were wondrous and I miss you and I always will.”

Keaton died on Saturday, October 11, at age 79. Her family later revealed to People on Wednesday that the actress’ cause of death was pneumonia. That same day, a friend of Keaton’s told TMZ her death was “not a shock” because she had been “struggling with an unnamed illness” prior to her pneumonia diagnosis.

Included in the carousel of photos were two selfies of Steenburgen and Keaton together, flashing smiles, as well as a video of the pair singing with Book Club costars Jane Fonda and Candice Bergen. The group grew rather close while working together on the rom-com and its 2023 sequel set in Italy, Book Club: The Next Chapter.

“It’s everything I imagined women’s friendships can be,” Fonda, 87, said of her special bond with Steenburgen, Keaton and Bergen, 79, in a May 2023 interview with People. “When I was younger, there was this assumption that women were kind of catty and four stars working together wouldn’t work because they’d be competing, and it’s just not true. We’re friends and we love working together and we help each other when we need to.”

The comments section of Steenburgen’s post quickly filled with love for the friend group, who are mourning the loss of Keaton along with the rest of Hollywood and her loyal fans.

“This kind of love and friendship is what it’s all about. I am so sorry for your loss, Mary. The whole world loves her.. but to truly know her as you did.. what a gift,” one person commented, as a second person wrote, “Sending love and hugs for your loss of a magical and fabulous friend. It sounds like you have store of wonderful memories, but I’m sad for your heart right now ❤️.”

“My deepest condolences to you Mary on the passing of your dear and beautiful friend and colleague,” said a third Instagram user. “We as fans only know Diane via her movies and public appearances, you were fortunate to get to see more sides of her, and how fortunate you were. ❤️.”
