Women’s Meet Recap

The Nittany Lions held a tight grip on the lead throughout the meet, winning 15 out of the 16 events and walking away with a final score of 211 points to St. Bonaventure’s 81.

The veterans led the charge for Penn State, with a handful of seniors and fifth years picking up seven individual wins between them.

Twins Catherine Meisner and Julia Meisner each won two events apiece. Catherine took home the victory in the 100 and 200 free, turning in times of 50.29 and 1:46.82, respectively, while Julia prevailed in the 200 fly and 200 IM with times of 2:01.00 and 2:02.54, respectively.

Classmate Morgan Moore also picked up two victories, sweeping the distance events and charging into the wall first in the 500 free (4:57.09) and 1000 free (10:03.07), both of which were a few seconds faster than where she was at last year’s season opener.

Meanwhile, fifth-year Margaret Markvardt raced into 1st-place in the 100 back in 55.17, nearly a full second ahead of Bonnies’ runner-up Sophie Baker (56.09).

Penn State freshman Cyrah Robinson won two individual events in her collegiate debut. She prevailed in the 50 free, throwing down a new lifetime best time of 23.60, and the 100 fly, posting a time of 55.10. Robinson was also a part of the winning 400 free relay team, joining teammates Moore, Audrey Cohen and Julia Barto to touch first in 3:24.49.

Bringing home St. Bonaventure’s sole event victory of the day was junior Anna Forjan. Her performance was less than three seconds off of her lifetime best in the event (1:57.27).
