Makers and artists will gather in San Diego County next week for “YOUtopia,” a makers and artists event dubbed the local “Burning Man.”
The event, which opens Wednesday at the De Anza Springs Resort in Jacumba, will feature a Kaleidoscope Bazaar of artwork, sound camps and other creative opportunities. Most importantly, the event is meant to build “community and fellowship” among all attendees, organizers said.
At YOUtopia, San Diegans are invited to “uncover a realm of shimmering sights and curious encounters, where each twist and turn reveals a new marvel of camaraderie and artistry. Get ready to explore a world where every interaction is a new color in our collective creation,” said Heather Thelen, co-executive producer for the event.
“Many people are curious about Burning Man but cannot commit to the main event – and this is a great place to dip your toe into the one-of-a-kind experience,” Thelen said. “YOUtopia is our local version of Burning Man giving San Diegans an accessible version of the nine-day festival in the desert.”
The regional San Diego festival is organized by San Diego Collaborative Arts Project, a nonprofit that supports local artists.
Tickets for the event, which continues through Oct. 19, range from $263 to $305. Volunteers providing 12 hours of time are offered a discount.
