Regan Smith posted a new American Record and US Open Record swimming to a 2:00.28 in her win at the first of three stops in the World Cup series. That broke her own American Record of a 2:01.00 that she swam for silver at last December’s SCM World Championships. The US Open record of a 2:03.39 stood since 2015 as Cammile Adams swam the fastest time at the Duel in the Pool.

She looks to become the 3rd women to break the 2-minute mark in the event. Mireia Belmonte first did so in 2014 and Canada’s Summer McIntosh did so last year in a 1:59.32.
