Although his final line won’t look too impressive – 4.0 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 3 K – you have to keep the context in mind. Getting four innings of what SHOULD have been one-run ball is really about what you hope for in the postseason from a non-elite starting pitcher. And to get that while pitching for the Cubs’ postseason life made it all the more compelling.
It’s too bad the Cubs can’t get him back out there tonight for Game Four, but hey, if they survive to a Game Five, maybe a couple innings out of the bullpen? It’s been done before! (Also, Matthew Boyd: please be the guy the Cubs need tonight.)
