LOL: Bulls’ Yuki Kawamura Discussed His Trash-Talking with Matas Buzelis ...Middle East

Do not let the baby face and five-foot-eight frame fool you, Yuki Kawamura has no fear.

The Chicago Bulls signed the Japanese native to a two-way contract after a strong performance during the team’s Summer League run in Las Vegas. His first stint in the NBA came one season ago with the Memphis Grizzlies, where he quickly became a fan favorite for his high motor and flashy passing. To be sure, the guard still has a lot to prove if he wants to carve out a consistent role at the league level. But Kawamura has increasingly looked the part … and I guess he’s sounded the part, too.

During the Chicago Bulls’ official Media Day, Matas Buzelis shared some surprising insight on what it’s like to share the court with one of his newest teammates:

“Yuki likes to talk a lot of trash. He loves to do that,” Buzelis said. “Every time he’s with me, he just wants to talk a lot of trash to me. I just want to say hi [or] good morning, and he’s already ready to go, especially when there is scrimmages. I respect him, though. I like that.”

Coming from Buzelis, who entered the league with his own trash-talking reputation, that’s some high praise. The sophomore has never been afraid to throw out a few jabs, and it sounds like Kawamura is able to match his intensity.

The two-way guard recently discussed Buzelis after a day of training camp, mentioning him as one of the players who has really stood out during scrimmages. He confirmed Buzelis’ trash-talking claims, but he did not admit to being the one who started the drama.

“Matas, he is very talented. Sometimes he trash talks with me, but definitely he starts it every time. I don’t start. I’m very competitive, that’s why. In the heat of the moment it happens. He is very good. He is very talented. He has a bright future. He is going to be a great, great player soon.”

When asked what words are normally exchanged, Kawamura was quick to let the media know that “it’s no good for TV.” Smart, man!

Depending on how rated-R things get, though, I’d like to let Bulls TV know that I’d fork over some cash for a Pay-Per-View mic’d up scrimmage. Perhaps they should run that by ownership. It’s always good to find extra revenue sources, right?

Anyway, Will Gottlieb of CHGO shared the clip of Yuki Kawamura discussing his relationship with Buzelis on the app formerly known as Twitter. It’s easy to see why so many have hopped on the Kawamura bandwagon. What’s not to like!
