Frustrations are boiling once again in Philadelphia.
Despite being the defending Super Bowl champions, and starting the 2025 NFL season 4-0, the Eagles have a problem on offense.
Star wideouts Brown and Smith are said to be frustrated in PhillyGettyWideouts A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are not seeing much of the ball in a run-heavy gameplan spearheaded by quarterback Jalen Hurts and star back Saquon Barkley.
Following a Week 4 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in which the pair combined for just four catches and 36 yards, Brown posted a cryptic message quoting the Bible on social media, leading to trade rumors.
“If you’re not welcomed, not listened to, quietly withdraw,” he wrote on X after the game.
“Don’t make a scene. Shrug your shoulders and be on your way.”
Smith, for the most part, has remained quiet in front of reporters — but Brown’s words alone were enough to set alarm bells ringing in Philly.
While he later admitted he let ‘frustrations boil over’ and took ‘full accountability’ for his post before smoothing things over with the organization, it seems others around the league have taken notice.
NFL GM predicts Eagles ‘may move on’ from star receivers
The Athletic’s NFL Insider, Dianna Russini, reported ahead of Sunday’s Week 5 action that Brown and Hurts are ‘not that close these days’ but still have a ‘functional, professional’ relationship.
“Right now, for the Eagles, it’s run, run, run, Hurts off-schedule pass, tush push. For their receivers, that means when they get to the red zone, they aren’t getting the ball — and they know it. Hence the frustrations,” one league source told Russini.
The reporter then added: “(Nick) Sirianni and (Howie) Roseman have already had their own private conversations with Brown to hear him out and they are managing the situation.
“The Eagles have not shopped him, telling teams in the offseason there was ‘no chance’. But rival executives are watching.”
Brown has just 151 yards and one TD through four games this seasonGetty Barkley and Hurts have been spearheading a run-heavy Eagles offense in 2025GettyOne general manager has even predicted Philly could move on from their under-utilized wideouts, who are averaging a combined £57million salary despite just 309 yards and two TDs between them this season.
“They are paying roughly $50m to two wide receivers (Brown and Smith), and they aren’t even that involved,” the GM told Russini.
“They may move on simply because Philly is a run-heavy team.”
A rival head coach also broke down exactly why Brown has become so frustrated with the Eagles.
“Don’t let A.J. Brown tell you he isn’t getting enough targets. It’s not about the quantity,” they told Russini.
“It’s about the type of targets and the situations he’s in. That’s why he’s frustrated.”
One NFL GM has predicted the Eagles could move on from Brown and SmithGettyHave the Eagles had frustrations on offense before?
While other teams are watching closely, frustration in the wide receiver ranks is nothing new for Philadelphia.
Last season, there were reports of a rift between Hurts and Brown, before the latter was spotted reading a book on the sidelines during the playoffs.
The Eagles went on to win Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs, where both Brown and Smith caught a touchdown in the 40-22 win.
Philly has started 4-0 this year, and the longer Sirianni’s team remains unbeaten, the quieter things will get.

Quarterbacks of all-time – Can anyone better Tom Brady?
Wide receivers of all-time – Does Randy Moss or Jerry Rice come out on top?

But if they start to lose some games with their run-heavy offense, things could certainly get even more interesting.
