ROCHESTER, N.Y. — It was a busy summer for the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport, recording its highest number of flyers in over 15 years.
Nearly 372,000 people boarded a flight from Rochester to another destination in June, July, and August. That’s the highest since 2007, when just over 391,600 boarded flights.
This August alone, the airport recorded 130,315 enplanements, the highest summer monthly number since the 1990s. Officials credit the recent addition of new non-stop routes — including Raleigh/Durham, N.C., Nashville, Tenn., Wilmington, N.C., Lakeland, Fla., and Charleston, S.C. — for the increase. Officials also say investments in the terminals, parking, and other amenities helped.
Next year, the airport will begin non-stop routes to Fort Myers and Sarasota in Florida. In total, nearly 743,000 passengers traveled to and from Rochester this summer.
